That may just put them near what the broncos pay their players to stay in brissy, where the cost of living is cheaper and they pay severe unders to keep players in brisbane because the players are brisbane kids....

The warriors have to throw overs at aussie players to attract them over the ditch, and that is simply converted into aussie dollars.

hmm I thought they got a bargain for Wiki but gave him a year more than what I thought he could do.
& Steve Price has a good 3rd party gig which I am sure doesnt fall into NRL law becaue they are doing it in another country. A country very close to the cook islands.

Comes back to the amount of NSW teams in the end.

One Team one Town has advantages - no dispute.

I used to think that Angry but I dont anymore.
Look at the Knights.
In the most enviable pocket in th League except for the Broncs.
Nearly exctinct. They have big business around them everywhere, they had a new ground given to them, they won a grand final 3 years ago and they are being rescued.
I think the true franchising of clubs has now completed. I feel the discovery of the polynesian player market has evened the spread of talent. I think the carve up of the regional league districts will continue to spread talent.
Melbourne are a good example of how things should & will work. a finals team every year.

Thing you forgot to mentio about Newcastle Blacky is they don't have a registered club to support them.

they had that they'd have no problems financially and would still be a powerhouse.

They offend because they have not been able to cope since 2001 & player balloon payments.
They offend in a very minor way & pay dearly for it & have even admitted it will happen again this year.

the clubs must still be run well on their own merits though reefy, the knights have failed to do this, and it won't get any better whilst they keep putting the "traditional" style board member on the board ( Harrigan for example).

Have you been up there for an NRL match ? it's a farce, they treat their fans with contempt, it's organising just like an oversized group 11 match but not as well, the entertainment is shocking and that runs through their entire organisation all week/season long.

Then down the road you have the ent cent hosting NBL games that are run very well indeed and attract the younger population. The knights blue rinse set that sit on the hill in their rugs , whilst fantastic fans and important for the club, were never going to be the long term demographic the knights needed to cater too.

They lived on the coat tails of their GF win and andrew Johns for way too long and are now feeling the crunch.

I reckon poor management has played the major part in their downfall. I'd love 3 years as CEO of that club, as you say, the best area to run a onw town team, I'd have it like the house of pain in sth NZ before you know it !
