We get into position many times in every game and we don't score easily.
We get an incredible amount of extra sets from drop outs and we don't score easily.
We don't score runaway tries even when we make a break.
An extra prop will not fix any of this plain and simple.
As I said if we buy Vaughan we have to shed a forward or 2 to fit him in.
I would happily swap JDB for him as I think that would be an upgrade but Vaughan is not the cure to our struggling attack, however he may complement out attack if we ever get it fixed and that for mine is the salient
point.

I hear what you're saying Old Timer.. I never said that he would be the sole cure to our struggling attack, that's a coaching thing, i'm saying he will serve us well in his position fulfilling his role as a prop forward. We need size and strength up front, so don't use Vaughan as a scapegoat to push the lack of attack argument.

What do you want recruitment to do? Look at who is on the market mate, there is honestly no-one worth signing except for a couple of half decent forwards and Carney. Our attack stems from coaching which has obviously been decided for 2017, we're all furious, but let's move on from that and try and do the best we can with what we have.
We need a Cooper replacement and Vaughan is the target for that it would seem, in fact he's an upgrade from Cooper imo.
If we do shed a couple of forwards for him I feel like we won't lose anyone that will hurt us.

I keep hearing you guys saying we will have a decent pack. That's great, but as I said in a previous post, we had no problems getting off our line and getting into the opposition's 20. What we couldn't do is score tries.
We could recruit the Australian pack, but if we don't have a plan of attack, how do we take advantage of the pack.
Seriously, we buy another forward, well over the odds. We buy a hooker in McInnes, who was dropped from Souths first grade side because he lacks a fast play the ball, gives poor service to his supports and has no attacking prowess. And we sign Nene MacDonald for $330k per season(way over the odds). He's a winger, the position we probably have too many of at the club, already. Not to mention resigning Marketo???
Can anyone explain to me how these signings are going to improve our attack next season?
You can't, because they won't.
Hello wooden spoon!
The issues with our coach and 7 are well documented. But that doesnt make this a terrible signing. Realistically, we should be looking at our 7 options for next year independant of Vaughn signing. Based on what's available, I would be recruiting Hastings back and letting him fight it out with Hutch for the 7, with the other getting his chance in the case of injuries.

And lets be honest, we could buy Thurston and Cronk in the 6 and 7 and we'd still struggle with Mary as coach.

That being said, it doesn't make this a bad signing. You go through our list of props, and at his best Vaughn is right up there with Packer and Simms (if we can get him to his best, which is another story). Ah Mau has a ploddish year, Mose is an unknown after injury, Sele and Kerr havent played first grade yet. Yes, the money is a bit extreme, but all in all his aquisition is handy.

A top shelf forward pack is another ingredient that our new coach (y'know, once Mary gets sacked in Round 6) will have to work with. The less pieces they have to gather, then better.

Vaughan is needed

Our pack got smashed against the roosters pack in our last game against them so we need great depth and genuine depth

yes Packer played injured most of the year
yes we didn't have Mose out there
yes we didn't have Creagh out there
no Sims that game either

and that is why we need another mid 20s emerging prop because we need to have the depth week to week

start the game with our big men and make the metres we struggled to make.
A half back would much prefer a pack rotation such as below so he can control the game via already good field position and Hutch will need these guys to fire !

Packer, Mcinnes, Mose
Sims, Friz
JDB

Vaughan
AhMau
Thomo
Host / Luc[/QUOTE
Spot on with no go forward our halves have no chance at all.

Just Like Rein , when the DeBelins contract is up he will get a reduced contract, and if he thinks hes worth more it will taken off the table,
dont tell me saints are not loyal, these guys think they are worth more and taking the club for a ride

agreed, as much as I love the kid he never reached those expections that a lot of us had of him when he first debuted

If Jack ever gets to play under a coach who isn't deluded enough to believe he is a half back in a forwards body, he may just reach those expectations.

As I said I am happy to have Vaughan as long as a current regular player is offloaded because for mine it should be an upgrade on what we have not just another acquisition.

I believe that Lafai, Lui, Marketo and Matthews are surplus to our needs and we should let them leave immediately. This will
allow the up and coming Cutters forwards
and Lawrie to be included in The Top 30 Squad.

The only forwards from the Cutters that would see any first grade is Host and Sele.

Leulia no idea what is going to happen to him i don't think he does and the length of time the contract situation has dragged out is ridiculous.

Lawrie should be moved into the Cutters to see if he can handle the step up to NSW Cup level but i doubt he'll see any first grade.

Kerr the new signing will play mostly with the Cutters next year.

Mathews and Lui add experience and may not play much first grade anyway if they are dead serious about progression.

Marketo should see none at all.

Lafai certainly needs to be moved on.

Don't expect Sironen to stick around.

Host, Leilua, Sele, Simms I thought were the cover for that and of course there was Lui as well.
For me simple by one sell one.
Fair enough. Again, I'm banking on the fact that guys like Marketo, Matthews and Lui fall down the pecking order and/or are let go.

IMO, Sims replaces Creagh and Vaughn replaces Cooper. Host, Sele and Kerr are project players used for depth dueing injuries, and will come into consideration when other players are off contract (eg, if Host because a better option than JDB at the end of next year, he gets the nod).

Mose is the unknown. A 130kg prop coming back from ESL and an ACL tear isn't guaranteed to hit first grade standard.

Agree re your nominated players falling down the pecking order but would feel much more confident if we didn't have them at all.
Agree re Masoe he is a big unknown as is Leilua.
One of the really big issues is some players we see in the Cutters we try to make a call on but they have had no 1st grade exposure for us to make a proper evaluation.
Whereas the journey men and lesser lights of other clubs we at least have seen something of them so for the want of a terminology they become a "safe pick" for the conservative coach.
