A good club player, goes missing at Rep Level.

The 2005 Tri-Nations saw him only further enhance his reputation, not damage it.

I wouldn't have him as the best centre in the game though he ranks in my top five.

Let's hope we can keep in the NRL competiton.

Whats is a very good centre. He's not flashy, but is a handful & can keep the opposition quiet. Probably doesn't have the attacking flair of Gaz, Cooper, Hodges, Lyon, Tate, Soliola...but similar to Bell in that he has great footwork, & if you take your eye off him, he's off.

I think he is similar to Cooper.

Good defender, wont dazzle with a step or chip, but he is light on his feet and once he gets about 10 out you cant fault him.Seems to consistently find the line when there is a heap of traffic around him.

I'm still p****ed off that we let him go and replaced him with Paul Franze

That's the magic of the salary cap in action. Can't complain now that you have won a title in the last 10 years.

should not be wasting his talents in the ESL
unbelievable that no club seemed to pick him up (im assuming he was off contract rather then released to the ESL which could be the case?)

I would kill for Fatz at canberra, with our backline next year... trade ya for Frawley?

He wasn't the player he is at the Tigers... but he was a good centre for us. We just never realised it as we always went our Girds way with the ball.

Looking back, Girdler and Whatuira was a brilliant centres combination... and considering our centres are the part that has changed the most since then (neither plays for us anymore, nearly the rest of the team is the same, or of equal quality atleast)... they were a huge part of why we were successful.

Whatuira is one of my favourite players and i'm glad he has been great (while not injured) for the Tigers.

Fatz is an excellent player. Doesn't pass though. Seriously, watch him. He'll pass like twice a game.

no he makes the half break then sends his winger away, instead of just giving the ball to his winger when nothing is on and risking them getting pulled into touch.
