Just saw it on 7 news... He was retiring at the end of the year but anyone know why??
Seven news didnt elaborate
He received an injury (shoulder I think) that was too severe for him to be able to play again this year, hence the need to retire immediately.
I thought he was just about gone during the twilight stages of his career at Collingwood, and its true that he would have retired years ago had he not suffered a financial disaster that forced him to play on with the Swans.
Was a very good pick-up for the Sydney side, however, and gave them a big boost en route to the flag last season. The loss of Ball and Williams from last year's flag side are, for mine, key reasons why the Swans can't repeat that success this time around.
Well done to Williams on a fine career. Playing 300+ games of AFL football is a fantastic achievement and I think he can safely say he got the best out of himself.
