If the Eels went for a like-for-like interchange strategy you'd have Cayless and Cordoba alternating, and Moi Moi and Paulo alternating.
Personally, I like ...
8. Cayless
10. Paulo
16. Cordoba
17. Moi Moi
Fui Fui is our best forward attacking weapon, but he has to be injected for maximum benefit IMO. Being on the bench is no slight against him.
Paulo had a great game, but I hope he can keep it up.
I agree that Cordoba is just too small, even though like Cayless he plays above his weight. Unfortunately I think he is as good now as he will ever be as a prop. His career might actually benefit from a move to the second row.
The only thing I like about Hauraki's game this year is his aggression. The problem with that, is it isn't controlled and he ends up giving away too many penalties as a result. We talk about wanting an "enforcer" and at this stage he is the closest thing we've got. If he can pick up the parts of his game that are just below par at present (offensive workrate and effective defence) then he could still be something.
I think this pack and bench would be a massive improvement for 2009 ...
8. Cayless
9. Matt Keating
10. Paulo
11. Hindmarsh
12. Cordoba
13. Mateo
14. Lowrie (if he maintains his current standard, then he deserves his spot, although someone like Baumann or Wright should be given the opportunity if he drops off ... although Hagan's selection policies mightn't accommodate such radical ideas as dropping players who aren't at their best)
15. Hauraki
16. PROP (someone with endurance, but also at least a bit of power ... recruit one or promote a youngster if they are up to it, but for God's sake do something different)
17. Moi Moi
