At least someone in the community got some value out of him.
Selling 250 tickets would've been the most and the hardest work he's done all season.
PAYNE PUTS KIDS FIRST
By Wayne Cousins
The Sydney Childrens Hospital at Randwick received a cheque for $4200 today after a wonderful gesture by Wests Tigers forward Corey Payne
At a time when some rugby league players are obsessed with making a quick dollar, Payne took it upon himself to raffle off a signed, fully framed half Wests Magpies, half Balmain Tigers heritage jersey with all proceeds going to the hospital.
Payne showed great initiative to get the jersey signed and framed and then went about selling 250 tickets himself.
I wanted to raise some money for charity and to do something good in the community, so I chose the Sydney Childrens Hospital, Payne said.
You never want to see sick or injured children and you also want to help out their families. This hospital gives them plenty of support.
As part of the Paynes visit, he met several, sick children and their families in the wards. He presented them with Wests Tigers posters and happily signed, personalized action photos of himself playing for Wests Tigers.
These kids give you so much strength and inspiration, Payne said.
I want to get more involved with the Sydney Childrens Hospital and am happy to do whatever I can for them.
