The Wests Tigers have secured the services of prop Todd Payten for a further two years, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2011 season.

The 29-year-old is a 202 game NRL veteran, with 2009 marking his 14th year in the top grade.

"One of my aims is to play 250 first grade games in the NRL. If I can achieve that goal, I would be pretty happy," Payten said.

"By re-signing for a few more years, it shows the quality of the pack we have and hopefully it will lead to some more talented players signing with Wests Tigers."

Payten has played 94 matches in the Tigers colours since his debut in 2004.

"We are very happy Todd has agreed to stay at Wests Tigers," said Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell.

"Todd is very much a leader at Wests Tigers and the experience he passes on, particularly to the younger players, is very vital to the club.

"His decision to re-sign means it almost completes the formation of the Wests Tigers pack for the next few years. It means we now have Todd Payten, Keith Galloway, Bryce Gibbs, Chris Heighington, Daine Laurie and Gareth Ellis signed until at least the end of 2011.

"We also have a number of talented young forwards coming through the Toyota Cup competition. There will be plenty of strength in the Wests Tigers forward pack in the next few seasons."

Okay two things...

1. Looks like Payten is putting the call out to Marshall and Farah to sort their sh*t out and re-sign.

2. What happened to the "clean-out", and a bunch of players who need to "grow up" or they'll get a "tap on the shoulder"? All of a sudden we're gloating about strength in the forwards for the next couple of years - are only our backs facing the chop? Or was releasing Harrison the solution to all our problems?

Sheens and McDonnell. All talk... Again.

I know its positive spin by WT's but Bryce Gibbs must be on thin ice- I know he has an extended contract but his performance has not been exceptional (nor smart).

I agree with them that the forward pack seems pretty settled now (I presume Payten is the prop forward they were looking to sign) but we need to ensure our reserve players to fill in for injuries and suspension.

Todd Payten till 2011
Keith Galloway till 2011
Bryce Gibbs till 2012
Chris Heighington till 2011
Daine Laurie till 2010 (and option 2011)
Gareth Ellis till 2011.

Have to say the hooker spot will be interesting if Farah goes- Morris / Halatau / someone form lower grade / outsider?

Backs- yes I think there will be some culls there- Tagive, Colis, Marshall, Galea all have contracts ending.

As to the tap on shoulder- well NC- I think you called it right- the only tap on shoulder is those with contracts ending- no rip up of contracts.

Our forwards look decent tbh. Peyton, Galloway as props. Heigho and Ellis as second rowers and Halatau at lock with Laurie on the bench and possibly a few Toyota cuppers.
