PC Monitor Issues

I was looking at this site last night on my computer at home when all of a sudden my monitor (and computer I think too) turned of unexplainably. My other electricals like TV were fine, and it seemed like the power cords were all plugged in fine too for the computer.
Anyway turned it off at the switch then on again and started up my box. Then the monitor. However the monitor does not turn on properly now. I press the power button on the front and the green light turns on, then after a second or five it goes to an orange colour. I have not adjusted the settings or anything, haven't touched a sleep-timer or anything. It is an M50 Hewlett Packard, fairly old but does the job fine. What the hell is wrong with it!? I've tried pressing all the buttons below the screen to activate it but still it goes back to the glowing orange colour rather than the green (in the power light section near the power button). All the cords are in, well, accordingly.
What's the deal?

Would be about 4 years old - but what I don't get is that it seems like everything is OK apart from the obvious problemo.

The fact that the light goes to orange suggests a problem with the power. It's not a home fix job in any case. A electrical repairer would probably be able to fix it, but if it's just a CRT monitor it might not be worth the expense.

It might not be the monitor. It could be the computer itself.

When you turn the comuter on do you hear a beep or any kind? one beep?
One beep means the computer has booted...thus u have a prob with the monitor.
No beeps and you have a likely motherboard/video card problem

I don't think I've ever heard any beeps before Saab. This problem has also happened once before, with the computer switching itself off/restarting, for an unknown reason. Turning it back on fixed it though. I hate computer f**k ups.

One solution to see if it is a monitor problem is to borrow a friends monitor and put it on yours. Then you will eliminate one cause.
Is this a name brand like Dell/IBM/HP?

If the monitor is a CRT don't bother getting it fixed, they're pretty much worthless now. Treat yourself and get a new LCD screen.

Yeah it is a big fat chunky one!! Where's the best place to get an LCD monitor? I recently went to a computer fair type thing and saw a couple for $100 with slight imperfections. What other options do I have?
