penalties in the ruck

do we get a fair go in the ruck when it comes to the play the ball as we know tigers like to play an uptempo game which includes quick play the balls to get a roll on with and to give robbie room to move but to many times this year we have had a roll on with quick play the balls only to be interfered in the ruck with defense loitering around the play the ball or hanging in the alley either side of the ruck usually the call comes from the REF saying that particular defender is off side instead of penalising that player so we are not getting penalties were are supposed to get and it is closing down one of our strengths on the other hand we seem to be over panalised around the ruck.

PS, is this something to do with the KPi's the refs keep on each team if so they need to be reviewed because we are not getting full value from the style of footy we play

I have to say you are spot on. It seems as tho the refs penalise them for 20 minutes or so.. then they slacken of and just call the offender out of play. I have heard Bill Haringan mention about blowing a million penaltys and ruining a game, but if thats what it takes to clean the ruck up so be it. They would only have to do it for a few rounds and it will stop when teams get hammered in the penalty count. The biggest issue i notice these days are the markers standing side by side....Manly are experts at it. The other thing is players being allowed to step to the side of the mark thus putting the markers off side.. They always seem to get away with doing it, so its now becoming more prevalent.

What happened to the 'Quicker 2 ref game'

In the first 3-5 rounds the refs blew the tops off their wistles for infringements in the ruck, now it seems as slow as ever. the most disapointing thing is seeing a defender nowhere near marker being targeted by robbie and not getting a penalty for it.

i can understand that lying in the ruck is an interperation by ech ref but as far as markers go, your either square at marker or your back 10m. Its that black and white.

Robbie has really been feeling it too, he has effectivly been taken out of games.

not that effectively. he's got almost twice as many more line breaks from dummy half runs than any other player in the NRL.

Agree, but i dont think he has made a line break or played to his high standard since the Souths match. Its like every time he dominates a game (Souths where he was brilliant) every other team we play afterwards concentrate on slowing the ruck, and they do that effectively. Most of the time we get the first few penalties in a row for that, than the refs forget about robbie.

Having said all that they can never stop him from being a great dummy half player, in its traditional sense or a classy playmaker at first reciever.

See i'm still not convinced with your argument.

he made more metres just last week than any other hooker in the game. He near doubled that of every other hooker, bar about 2.

U have 35,000 posts, i have 35 so i wont argue with you and trust that your stats come from a relaibe source and therefore, i stand corrected.

I think we can both agree straight off the bat that in a wheel chair (God Forbid) he will still be our most valuable player.

Hahahahaha. When did post whoring equal correct?

The inconsistency of penalties in the ruck area (20 minutes on, 60 minutes off) does impact teams with smart dummy halves (Tigers, Storm, etc) which translates into a lower impact.

Good players can never be completely "taken out of the game". Look at Slater and Hayne. But, they can have their effective impacted through tactics and/or officiating.

agreed he is killing it in yardage but,its the flow on effect of not getting the 2nd and 3rd phase offloads and breaking up the opposition D lines as they scramble to keep or not getting penalties that should be coming to us its a no brainer we lose out on better field position and the opportunities for set plays in better field position that we thrive on .the only way to stop it is to penalise the culprits im sick of seeing this loitering in the ruck look at the saints they are the experts at it...

post whoring? I've been a member of this forum for near on 6 years.

The inconsistency of penalties in the ruck area (20 minutes on, 60 minutes off) does impact teams with smart dummy halves (Tigers, Storm, etc) which translates into a lower impact.
Yet the stats/facts also suggest that those players are still outperforming everyone else in the same position, and have been all year long.

Good players can never be completely "taken out of the game". Look at Slater and Hayne. But, they can have their effective impacted through tactics and/or officiating.
lol officiating affects a whole team, not just one single player.

Every team would have tactics for each player. It's the same situation for every club in the comp for all 102 seasons the game has been played.

This is a pretty silly thread imo.

mate posts mean f**k all imo.

The stats come from Big League - David Middleton.

While he's sh*thouse at recording the game's history, there's no one else doing these in-depth stats he does now as good as him.

I don't think losing a pointless argument which you started is indicative of pressing someone's button.

Moreso, it's evidence of you being a moron.

Whatever you say, oh Moderate one.

Not sure how I started an argument...I laughed at post whoring being used as a proxy for accuracy of stats which was a point made by another user...You got upset at being called a post whore...I think that 100+ posts per week all year (not just footy season) is post whoring. I don't think this is a win or lose kind of thing dude.

Moron? Hmmmm. Now I'm really cut. Being insulted by a dude I don't know based on relative intelligence is hardly going to do much.

Anyway, just take a chillaxative. You like to dish it up, but you don't like to eat it.
