it will be interesting this year as what was our weak spot this year could well be our strength next year.
Question who should be in the halves

this year it was
Lewis ..is not a half is a ball runner yes but not creator lock or center for me
Graham he is the future at only 18 he will be a star in the coming years

possible replacements

Jarrod Summit if he can pull his head in he would compliment Graham well at half
Joel Romelo killed them in the u20 tough as they come .Could be what we need .Expect him to maybe get a run mid season

Trent Iselin Very creative will play for our feeder team Windsor.A work in progress .But was working up a combination with graham before injury in the u20.Does need to work on his defence

Lachlan Coote will play fullback .But has played in the halves before.Doubt he will move from fullback but you never know

I would give Sammut a few weeks at half and Lewis at 5/8th. If Sammut can't cut it, then I would move Graham into the #7.

Wade Graham to halfback. He's only young, but he has a brilliant passing game and is a great leader. I wouldn't expect the results to be immediate... but he is definitely out most promising option.

As for 5/8.... we have a couple of options. My first choice would be Jarrod Sammut. Very unpredictable, would offer the same sort of flair that Preston Campbell did. I honestly think Sammut + Graham could be a much younger equivalent of the Gower + Presto combination.

Other then Sammut, my next choice would probably be Maurice Blair then Luke Lewis. Although they are bother better suited to other positions IMO, they are decent enough to cover the 5/8 position if needed.

Personally I would start the year with Iselin at half and Graham at 5/8
Sammut should be nowhere near 1st grade until his attitude changes.
I know Iselin has defensive problems but so do most of the 1st grade halves running around. I really liked the combination he and Graham were forming in the Toyota Cup this year before his injury

Lewis/Graham with Sammut at fullback at least to start the year in 2010 I would have Sammut/Graham however we need lewis' defence there for most of the year. I thought they were our best combo this season. Lewis doesn't have a bad short kicking game and Graham has a great long kicking game.

In 12 months Graham/Sammut will be more experieced and Coote will be more bulked up to slot straight in to fullback. These days fullback is an extra half anyway

I know for a fact Michael Gordon would prefer to be in the number 1 or 6 jersey. So he could be another option.

I think it would be lewis and graham at the start of the season.

I would like to see Sammutt and Graham to start the season with Iselin an option later on if Sammut doesn't pulls his head in.

I'm just curious to see what sort of role people expect Coote to play. Is it possible we might have a full back who wants to come up and play a bit of a 5/8 and is actually capable of doing so. Or now that we've got a fullback capable of doing so will Elliott now want him to play the running/support game Wesser should have been playing.

This really has me stumped.

I agree with MX, I think Graham is a natural halfback, perhaps a bit much to ask of him at his age. But I strongly believe that if we can get more out of our other 4 forwards then Graham will work.

The best footy I've ever seen Sammut play was at number six in the Flegg. Sure it's a much lower standard but the guy likes to run the ball and blend into the game, not run every play like a halfback should.

Having said that I think a spine of, 1. Coote - 6. Sammut - 7. Graham - 9. Masada is highly talented but very young and very inexperienced. I'd love to hang my hat on them for the future, but not for '09.

I think Coote has the talent and abilty to be another Lockyer. Fullback/58th. Masada has the ability to play: hooker, lock, half and 5/8th. Graham will only be a half or lock. Dash it.

lets hope Elliott does not start with Blair and Lewis.it was tried this year and did not work.Next year we need to take chance or we get the same as we got this year

I'd love to see him in any position where he gets the ball more then he does currently.... which would be pretty much anywhere. :?

If he wants a shot in the #6 jersey, test him there during the trial games. No one has secured a spot in the halves yet, and Michael Gordon is one more our most consistant and reliable players. He has earned the right to atleast get a shot in another position.

Love to see Gordo at fullback tbh. Imagine him on kick returns and with the ability to drift behind and look for offloads and hole's to hit with his pace. [Drools incessantly]

Lewis has to at least start the year in 5/8 and hopefully by the end of the season he'll be a ball playing lock and Sammut and Graham can be the halves. That leaves Coote on the outer, but some more Toyota cup wouldn't kill him and he'll get plenty of opportunity throughout the year.

1. Gordon - 6. Lewis - 7. Graham - 9. Masada

Sounds better to me.
