The Panthers have every right to stay with black and, asides from Wests, were the first to jump on primarily black. The secondary colours that go with the black are terrible; the teal and red reminds me of the Detroit Pistons in the 90's, plus they don't really have much to do with the history of Penrith. These colours came in, along with purple, in 2000 when they introduced their current logo and are woefully dated.
Black and brown is a unique combo that doesn't contrast too strongly so it wouldn't subtract from the overall black look. It would also bring back a bit of the old-school Penrith battler vibe from the 60's-80's, something that locals could own. Plus, if you look at a panther in the sun their fur has a brown sheen.
The more I think of it, they should also return to the leaping panther or something similar. It really captured the aggression of a panther well.
