Interestingly team numbers have dropped this year in the NT in the local league comp. Game needs a boost up there.

Quite amazing the amount of articles following this theme now, the problem for the fumbles is that it starts to be accepted as fact by the general population, increased defensiveness by the other code and panicked decision making as they try to counter it.
Certainly with the line-up of events over the next couple of years this narrative isn`t going to change. There is a momentum here that is going to be hard to counter with only having a domestic competition. There is only so much they can do to generate new headlines.
The funny thing is, to your average unthinking fumble fan, the union WC`s(of both sexes) will only add to their anxiety of being overrun by `rugby`.

Unfortunately for them, as with all other sports it is internationalisation that will engage younger fans, being only Australia based will not be enough.

It may get to the point of the AFL needing to rationalise clubs in Melbourne (hello Norths and St Kilda) to cut their cloth accordingly nationally. If this sounds familiar then it's where the ARL found itself in the 1990's.

They are trying to make it their PNG & think it should be tit-for-tat and the gov should pay $600m for it as well.
