Peter Sharp Joins Sharks Coaching Staff
25/10/2011 4:31:39 PM
Experienced campaigner Peter Sharp has joined the coaching staff at the Sharks and will lend valuable support to Head Coach Shane Flanagan in the role of Assistant Coach.

Sharp, who began his coaching career in the juniors and lower grades at Newcastle, went on to coach in the NRL at Manly and the Northern Eagles, before working under the likes of Craig Bellamy and Brian Smith in assistant coaching roles. Sharp looks forward to the move to the Sutherland Shire and to making a positive contribution to the success of the Sharks.

“I’m happy to be coming here and happy to be living at Cronulla,” Sharp said. “I am also excited about the roster here at the Sharks. They are young and they have a very strong pack of forwards.

“I’m also looking forward to working with Shane Flanagan. He is a good young coach and I really think I can help him and that I can add something to the place.”

Joining Flanagan and Sharp on a revamped NRL coaching team will be James Shepherd, the 2011 Sharks Toyota Cup Coach.

Shepherd guided the young Sharks side into the Toyota Cup finals for the first time in the four years of the National 20’s competition and as well as again taking the reins of the NYC Sharks Shepherd will play a significant role in 2012 with the NRL squad.

“I’m obviously wanting to do a good job again with the 20’s, but I’m also excited about the opportunity and extra responsibility working with Shane and Peter at the NRL level,” Shepherd said.

Shepherd will also handle the recruitment responsibilities for the under 20’s and junior representative teams.

In making the official announcements of Sharp and Shepherd, Flanagan was positive about what the pair could bring to the clubs coaching structure in 2012.

“Peter has vast experience at the top level and will be a huge help to myself and the players this coming season,” Flanagan said. “While James is a very good coach, did a great job with our 20’s last year and deserves his chance in the NRL.

“Both will be a big asset to what we do here next season.”

The Sharks return to the training paddock on the 7th of November to start preparations for an assault on the 2012 NRL title
