I don't think old Pete has put much thought or an ounce of research into this. College football players especially those not likely to be drafted typically stay in college for 5 years and then those with any sort of athletic potential will head over to CFL, XFL or float around from one practice squad to another trying to crack the NFL so these 'athletes' you're chasing likely won't even know what rugby league is until they're 26 or 27 years old, even if they manage to pick up the game in record time they're debuting at like 29 or 30 years of age by which time they'll be past their peak in terms of athleticism

The flip side is though College players aren't paid. You won't get the elite prospects but down the line there are a stack that learn early on they are no chance.

0.00001% it happens but nothing wrong with having ambition

They’ve got internationals but that’s only a handful of players in each country. For others though (and there’s probably hundreds in that category) their goal is making money before their bodies wear out. Just like most athletes. All we have to do is offer them a big enough financial incentive to relocate countries.

Particularly an outside back could switch at 23 or 24 and get a reasonable deal

Eden Park or Wellington with 30k will be huge for the game over there.

Add Magic round and you have 3 huge crowds for the new team, That is a great starting point

Christchurch has just begun building a new indoor 30,000 seat stadium. I'm pretty sure they will be next in the NRL.

oh dear... Lewis, Langer, Lockyer, Bennett, Meninga, Walters, Thurston, Smith, Slater etc all household names in QLD, even amongst people who don't even like RL lol ... all those guys who won flags for the Lions are back in Victoria or wherever the f**k they came from. Any current Lions player or the coach could walk down Queen st mall in the middle of the day and no one would recognize them.... Lions get decent support but please...

Bull shit artist McLachlan is responding to the blanket media coverage given to league via the Dolphins, great games, great crowds, great tv ratings and big announcements (including potential massive fed government investment) made by V’landys this week.
It’s typical fumble ball paranoia and fear. V’landys hit them where it hurts with multiple expansion options and player recruitment options poor old Gil could only dream of.
At the moment he is making multiple visits to dear old Hobart trying to convince us to spend 100s of millions of dollars on a stadium we don’t need. V’landys is rubbing it in his face.

Having a pasifika team based in Australia is a strange ides.

The term literally refers to people of Samoan, Tongan and cook island heritage among others living in NZ and that's where the team should be based. It also has nothing to do with PNG

In that case you’d be better off just recruiting from HS, once they get into college more than likely they’re staying 5 years. The thing is anyone who is an alpha athlete will get a shot in the NFL even if it’s a practice squad so you’re left with the average athletes in their early to mid 20s who don’t even know what rugby league is.

Wont happen. Look at history. We could attract players from union up to 1995 after that it has virtually dried up.

Unlike St. Pete to shoot off at the mouth.

AFL gets their players from one country. They also require more players per team. Their limited player pool will affect their competition quality with every team they add. So their continual growth isn’t actually possible without their game becoming worse.

We can get our players from any country that plays either form of rugby. All we have to do is have a salary cap for each club that is enticing enough for those players to come here. At the moment we have the second highest salary cap out of either rugby code. It’s only going to get larger as time goes on. Meanwhile English and French Rugby are cutting theirs. In 10 to 15 years you’ll start to see a lot of players who would be playing for European, South African and Pacific Rugby clubs instead coming to the NRL.
Not even one country

if your a migrant or not white afl really isn’t the game for you
