Haha and just like that PVL does a complete 180 on Perth team. He’s now suddenly pro Perth.

Hopefully the West Australian article can be seen.

PVL saying that it’s Uncle Nick that’s the visionary that wants to get to 20 teams quicker.

I love the line from PVL - “And it’s all funded by the broadcaster from the extra content” hahaha

Exactly what the Perth Red types and us accused “AFL lovers” on here get abused for saying - Perth is where you get more ratings growth with 2.7m people in WA which then maximises the tv rights deal. And you use the extra money from TV rights to fund participation.

This is so funny, PVL is actually spruiking the AFL model now. Exactly why the Suns and Giants exist. To get more cash in TV rights. It would seem it’s Uncle Nick that got in PVLs ear and told him to change strategy.

Now… imagine how much quicker NRL could’ve got to 20 teams had NRL not got outflanked by AFL in media rights? That extra $500m would have been a phenomenal kick start to expanding to 20 teams and being in a better position to give players a better deal in CBA negotiations.

It’s almost like narrow mindedness on playing the game in two states has cost the code millions in revenue over the past 20 years… Wait did I say “It’s almost like”?? I meant “It’s a certainty that…” etc etc.

Imagine being so stupid over the past 25 years, and PVL has been dense on this issue since he come on as a board member, that you didnt see the easy money on offer in Perth and completely missed out on WAs mining boom and getting much more sponsorships and corporate partnerships over the past two decades. Your talking about hundreds of millions of dollars on offer at your door step. No betting agencies or delusions of grandeur in USA involved. Just purely putting a team based in Perth, backed by government and watching the money roll in as the tv rights deals increases exponentially.

Anyways, maybe PVL lurks on this forum - cause he sure seems to be stealing some great ideas from a few of us “fumbleballers” on here haha
Not another suffering from VDS V'Landys Derangement Syndrome? Still going on about TV rights comparison where as explained many times the comparison is flawed on so many fronts. But whatever turns you on.Does the AFL have a team in N.Z. that impacts Oz NRL rights for example.
Please don't throw up those 2 AFL clubs as being an example.
The addition of the Giants has had minimal effect in Greater Western Sydney and apart from their dismal crowds ,they have done zero for the TV ratings in the city they are now in .They continue to live off the teat of the AFL .Suns not much better.
According to the AFL Sydney was going to cream themselves with the Giants. The same AFL that thought NZ was going to wet themselves by having a team there.Did you bother to criticise the AFL thinking all Polynesian kids would flock to the code because Izzie did his Whizzie playing for the Giants?

I'd certainly want a Perth team to have bigger crowds(and I believe they will ) and Tv ratings they'll need to get of their backsides.
The NRL is played in 3 states and another country NZ.The Storm have been in Melbourne since 1998.
A little bit of history champ, did the AFL have an internal war, that cost them(their cash reserves) on todays' money the $25m ? The ARL did and would be worth $50m today. That sort of money could have done a lot to assist expansion.
And not having $50m in the bank cost the code millions in revenue over the years .

So vlandys will deliver on an 18 team comp which trumps the fumblers

good chance he goes to 20

at that stage he’s out rugby league back where it was in 95 with every rival sport being irrelevant

The game is much stronger today than 95.

The back in my day crowd need to get in the bin.
Depends what you mean by stronger

every code has had increases in tv rights since then

we had 2 brisbane clubs, a Perth club (no storm tbf) Gold Coast and no mergers

we will be lucky to get back to 20 clubs in 2032 when it’s what we had 30 years ago

plus the game wasn’t run by news ltd

Round 18 vs Penrith & Round 22 vs Parramatta will be at Docklands/Marvel
Storm at Marvel Stadium on sale now!

From the look of the ticketing map, it won't be reconfigured. I don't think Docklands have done this for awhile now.

If I find anything about that changing I'll plonk it in here.
Speaking to stadium staff, apparently the Marvel Stadium stands WILL be moving in for the Storm games in July.

Hoping to get in to see that process happening.

Competition crowd average was 13.9k in 1995.

NRL 2023 average crowd 19k+

So less people through the gate even with 20 teams in 1995.

Club grants today of 17m+ each.
Record viewership Yoy.
Soon to be 18 teams.
NRLW going from strength to strength.
90% of clubs last year turned a profit.
Record revenue at head office of over 600m this year.
Record participation in NSW and Victoria.
Record broadcast deals in Aus and NZ.

In 95 maybe one club turned a profit.

What do you think?

I've been there in that configuration, when the LA Galaxy and Beckham were in town.

It's only useful for about 8k or so and frankly made the viewing experience for some others a bit shit.

Are they selling tickets for this yet? And if so what does the map look like?

vs Penrith June 30

vs Parramatta July 28

"Venue map for illustrative purposes only"

On sale according to the Ticketmaster site, on those two links above.

Still looks normal on the maps for each.

Good talk. hahaha
Afl has a turnover over a billion dollars vs nrl at 640 million

the least we can get is a bigger tv deal than them

if that happened then yeh it’s on par with 95

in 95 afl was a joke in nsw and qld

a pimple on the sporting backside of those two great states
