Just a question.... if this Vegas season opener becomes a thing every year... does that mean that you can play RL and see the world now? Or will the Unionites still use that line that was outdated in the 90's?

Places that RL stars have played in front of (in most cases) huge crowds):

Sydney
Brisbane
Auckland
Melbourne
Adelaide
Perth
Wembley
Arsenal (Emirates Stadium)
London Olympic Stadium
Old Trafford
Anfield
Cardiff (Principality Stadium)
Perpignan
Camp Nou Barcelona
Denver
Toronto
Vegas (coming soon)

Been saying they should do this for ages
Well why haven’t nz govt bought it before? Only reason it’s been in perth, adelaide and Melbourne is because those govt’s have paid $10mill to host it. Nothing has stopped the nz govt bidding for it.

Las Vegas and New Zealand show the nrl is pushing forward with international expansion

meanwhile the afl is still waiting for the buses to show up in China and the less said about the Wellington experiment the better

TV will likely kill it I'd say.

It would have to start after 9pm NZ time to make it work. Unless we reverted back to a Sunday game in the early evening Australian time.

I'm all for the concept though.

So the ARLC has canned(declined to fund) the Titans and Cowboys reserve grade proposal.

That's an odd turn of events, as it's been reported by the press, as being something the QRL was opposed to.

The reason given, was that they didn't have enough time(2 weeks) to consider the funding request.

That also seems odd given a) they've been talking about this all year, it's not a surprise request and b) the ARLC will wipe their arse with the $4.2M asked for, just on the plane ride to Vegas.

$4.2m seems too high for 2 teams

I assume that a chunk of that is funding the 5 other teams that would suddenly see zero funding. (the Cowboys and Titans current feeder teams).

But given they are going to spend 10 times that on a Vegas junket that will lead to nothing, it's a drop in the ocean.

For mine, not having Reserve grade teams is a good thing for the QCup. So I'm happy this has occurred.

Depends it thats a year or for a longer term. Nrl funds clubs directly for reserve grade sides and then they get a top up for the state leagues on top of that for those with their own clubs.

It maybe that case but Las Vegas has been a couple of years in the making not a few weeks.

I think it will happen, whether they stack on Feeder club or run their own teams.

People on here bag vlandys and abdo

then there are leaders like this

According to that other thread Lions are the second most attended club in qlnd. NRL should be ashamed.

The whole participation thing is rubbery as f**k for both codes, unless they are talking about registered club player numberss I dont believe any of them.
