No, but decent movement on revenue via increased media rights and sponsorship from the wider national coverage. It all helps.

I take you are Victorian?

Look at the ratings up here and in QLD, That even allows for both states having a good team.

They have more money and will waste more money but there is no impact from the hundreds of million $ already spent, So even more wont change anything

The number of kids playing AFL rather than RL in NSW/Qld is increasing every year and eventually (could be another 10 - 20 years) it will change things. The Lions and Swans are doing brilliantly well (bigger crowds and double the revenue of every NRL club other than Broncos). There are 450 Auskick centres in NSW. Eventually this will have an impact. The NRL equivalent League Stars has 10 centres here. Money talks - if the NRL spent the same money in Melbourne on grass roots as the AFL does in NSW/Qld, I have no doubt that would increase the interest in RL here. E.g. my son was physically suited (I thought) for RL, but there was no opportunity to have a try within 15km of my house.
And the only way to get more money is to go national - something to which PVL is vehemently opposed.

Kids being forced to play Auskick at school gets them counted as a junior, Yet most play other sports on the weekend. So those figures are nothing to fear it is like

The games are exclusively on 7mate, You see very ads on TV to get people to watch. Hence why the ratings are so low as are the crowds too

If you look here, Seems there are teams where AFL teams aren't based. It could be ground availability issues

If you think getting a junior club is hard in Melbourne, Try Adelaide they are almost non existent. So not sure just putting an NRL team there solves the issues people expect

I was in Sydney last week and sat having a coffee picked up the local rag, to say afl has no presence is kidding yourself going by the coverage in the sports section.
slothfield was on nrl360 tonight telling the panel how we was off to watch the swans at the weekend lol

The AFL gets a bit of a run in the 6pm news (both Seven and Nine) in Sydney and Brisbane. In Melbourne and the other AFL capitals the NRL isn't mentioned in the news at all. Let's not forget that in the 90s the AFL forced Channel Seven to sabotage their National Soccer League coverage so it wouldn't impact the fumblers.

If anything it shows the maturity of the northeastern capitals when compared to the south and West.

yeah I was in Melbourne for 2 weeks earlier in the year. The few times i saw the News cover an NRL game all they show is the controversial moments, HIA's etc - if there was a match winning try or field goal, nope they don't show it... so much fear of other codes lol

Any winter code is a threat to AFL, that’s why they’re so hostile to other sports. They only have the big stadiums because they share cricket grounds. The MCG, SCG, BCG (Gabba), WACA stadiums all have cricket in their official names. The MCG is not the MAFLG for a reason

Yeah they only play state games and test matches against weaker or low selling teams - Bangladesh, New Zealand (they are definitely not weak just not very high selling), West Indies etc at the WAFA. All the Big Bash games and high selling international matches are at Optus

It’s still a cricket ground that they once played on, much like Optus Stadium is now
Times have changed and roles have flipped. Optus was built for AFL not cricket. Cricket are now the secondary tenants.

Gil said they will spend 10% of broadcast cash on grassroots, much of it in NSW/Qld, including building/upgrading one ground a week.

At least the AFL is trying to grow their game. The NRL clearly isn’t.

Nothing, why would they? Generally a tenant doesn't pay for the building of the house they are renting lol
AFL has contributed to stadium costs previously. Usually when they want the design varied. Marvel (Docklands) like Homebush was supposed to be rectangular. And where they don’t contribute, the sort all the tenancy agreements so the governments know how much it will be used. You would not get a Souths/SFS stand-off in Melbourne or it the AFL was involved. Hopelessly mismanaged by both the NSW govt and the NRL.

Its hard to know what the NRL is trying to do tbf. The strat plan they released was so top end with no measurables that it told us nothing. I'd love to know what the Commission's goals are for the next few years. Only thing Ive heard is Abdo saying they want an 18 team mens and womens comp by 2028. Apart from that I cant say I've heard any of them actually tell us what they've got planned or looking to achieve?
