The ARLC is independent in name only. Since 2012 it has basically been run by the clubs, who've danced to whatever tune News Ltd played because it's where the bulk of the game's income comes from. Grant upped the grant and was then booted by the clubs. Smith and Greenberg were booted by the clubs after News Ltd chucked a tantrum so they could rip us off on broadcasting deals.
News own it and want the NRL to administer it. That is what they have wanted since day one with the ARL. It is quite sickening actually. I can't see us ever be rid of these leaches.

Let’s review the ledger shall we

in the positive column
- Got the game through covid (though every game got through covid and afl didn’t lose any tv money in the process)
- Made a profit last year (largely through not spending on grass roots and having two origin revenues in that financial year)
- Expanded the comp (without getting any extra revenue through)
- increased club grants to see them through covid
- expansion of nrlw

in the wtf is he doing column
- pssed off our growth markets through constant childish comments
- sacked the ceo who was playing hardball with tv re reductions and recommending not signing any deals until after the comp was back up and running normally
- made rule changes on the run that wrecked part fl the season and changed the fabrics of the game
- created a massive scare story about head injuries that only added to the perception that parents shouldn’t let their kids play our game
- changed a fundamental principle,of the game of players suspended spend that suspension immediately
- pulled australia and nz out of a World Cup
- got rid of mid season test calendar
- closed down a key part of our digital revenue raising platform that the nrl has invested tens of millions in to benefit fox and nine
- gave tv a substantial covid reduction which he then failed to recoup
- signed. 5 year deal in the middle of covid that yielded zero $’s extra cash for the game from our Australian tv partners and was shown by the afl deal to be either complete incompetence or complete corruption.
- screwed up the Sydney stadium negotiations leaving the game with No Redeveloped Accor and most clubs still not playing in decent stadiums. Not to mention destroying the relationship with govt and getting the public offside

hmm the ledger looks pretty heavily weighted!
don't forget to mention that the money the NRL apparently saved poor foxtel has now gone into the coffers of our main rival !!!

It was obviously just one of those 24-48 hour cold or flus. Everything back to normal.

Somebody needs to plant V’Landys head on that old Iraqi communications minister doing a press conference with the tanks behind him. Nothing to see here!

The clubs need to rebel and start up their own competition. It would ironic if another Super League was created to get rid of the buggers who created the first one.

this alone should be enough to remove him. He’s basically telling us fox would have been dead in the water without NRl and we had them over a barrel. And what did he do? Gave them the cheapest deal ever in comparison to our competitor. I mean even the most ardent Vlandys lover can’t justify that this is acceptable. He’s cost the game over $500mill in revenue. He has to walk.

AW: Was it a mistake doing the deal with Foxtel during the pandemic?
PV: At the time, Fox needed an asset on its sheet to continue its viability. If we didn’t come into play, there’d be no Foxtel.

Pistol Pete hey. I like the nickname. Unfortunately he was shooting blanks

Adelaide 1.306m

Gold Coast 540k
Newcastle 322k
Townsville 178k
Wollongong 295k
Total 1.335m.

His arguments don’t make any sense. He states that having a team in Adelaide compared with having teams in those areas has helped fumbleball’s deal. I agree but here’s a solution. Put a f****** team there then. There’s no point in whinging or making excuses for fumbleball getting more money if some of it you can actually fix

the NEL needs a club in every city and at least two in Melbourne which is the second biggest city in Australia so that there is at least one NRL game in Melbourne every week

that would increase the $$$$ of our NRL tv deal by quite a lot
Melbourne cannot support two professional rugby league clubs. The Storm model is successful because they represent all of Melbourne and give the fans of Melbourne's eight AwFuL clubs a team that they can all support in a sport that doesn't have split rivalries in Victoria. If you were to introduce a second club it would kill this dynamic. There isn't a Craig Bellamy 2.0 to turn Melbourne 2 into a powerhouse over the next 20 years. Melbourne 2 would be the NRL version of Melbourne Heart/City.

We do need a club in every metro market. We desperately need to get rid of financial strugglers like the Sharks. Relocate them to Adelaide and Perth or piss them off and bring in the Pirates. I've read over Cronulla's annual reports. They're a small club that struggles to make money in a small landlocked market that cannot grow. The fact the NRL chose this club over the Reds, Rams and Chargers has come back to hurt our game badly, and will continue to do so until some one will brains and balls takes over the ARLC and kicks the bludgers out.

Yet there are people on here still defending him. Boggles the mind.

To me the only reason people are denying it is because they can’t simply admit they were wrong about him. It’s analogous to somebody cheating on you and having all the evidence in front of you but being in a state of denial because you ‘love’ them
Another reason they're denying the obvious is because he's a relic of the NSWRL era who always puts the interest of Sydney RL clubs first, regardless of the damage it causes to the game. All of the people who support him are dyed in the wool NSWRL fans who reckon we need the Central Coast Bears to be the 18th team and keep on playing at shitholes that have hills instead of grandstands.

Central Coast mate. Should definitely choose them over putting sides in cities like Adelaide Perth and Brisbane or sides from NZ.

I have argued how ridiculous the notion of a CC side is because I live in Newcastle. It’s a small area. That and the fact that there are 10 other sides within the vicinity of them.

This is simply mindblowing. I can’t even fathom such a pathetic response.

Beta PVL and Alpha Gil.

Let’s review the last 2 years

- got the game going even at a discount price for 2020-2022 (tick)

- changed the rules for no reason without stakeholder consultation leading to blow outs (fail)

- negotiated the TV rights deal at grossly undervalued price (so News Ltd owned foxtel could continue on) which the AFL have completely blown out of the park (fail)

- failed to secure redevelopment of Accor Stadium and lost $800m in funding for local grounds (fail)

- took on the NSWRL to appoint his own men and lost in court (fail)

- declined Brisbane bombers and Easts Tigers an nrl licence in the growth corridor in favour of the Dolphins which appears to give not only News Ltd owned Brisbane Broncos a leg up and allows the Brisbane Lions to dominate southern and western suburbs for the next 20 years (fail)

- bought a pub on Caxton street without consulting other Commission members (fail)

- appointed himself a selector of the Australian team even though he’d literally nothing of value to add at the table (fail)

- no long term strategy for the future of the game or expansion to Adelaide, Perth and NZ or relocating Sydney teams (fail)

Any other chairman of NSWRL or NRL does the above and they’d have been be out on their ass and run out of town by News Ltd papers.

Alpha Gil must be thanking his lucky stars for Beta PVL. AFLs just sitting back like Napoleon saying “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake”. Losing South and west Brisbane alone is gonna haunt rugby league for generations.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at how poorly NRL has done in the last 5 years.

Don't forget the money he saved Ch9 is now going to the ARU. That means the idiot has taken money away from us and given it to our two main rivals. The money News Ltd has saved from underpaying us and not renewing SANZAR and A-League is now going to the fumblers. Let's just hope they don't drop it down the drain as they carry it to the bank.

Lions are investing heavily in Logan and Ipswich. The NRL and QRL have ignored Logan for 20 years. Our game is beyond hope with these turkeys running the show.

Logan has about 330k and has produced more world class rugby league players over the last 40 years than any other city in the world, yet the QRL refuse to put a Queensland Cup team in it and the NRL is more interested in propping up Sutherland!

David Manson put together a list of Origin and Test stars from Logan.

What does Sutherland offer to our game?

It's a small LGA with just 220k people and hasn't produced a long list of State of Origin and Test players. It would be dead and buried without the annual grant. Yet the village idiot V'landys told Greenberg to keep this shit club in the NRL!

So strong was the desire among some in the NRL executive to relocate or remove Cronulla from the premiership that the matter was taken to the ARL Commission. Sources with knowledge of the situation said Greenberg and Crawford were leading the push to shift the Sharks just a year after the franchise had celebrated its 50th season in the top flight.
At the time, V’landys had not yet ascended to the chairmanship and had only been a commissioner for a relatively short period. However, the Racing NSW boss felt there was no justification for the move and fought hard to ensure the Sharks remained a part of the NRL in their current guise.
