The NRL rights deal kicks in this year.

So NRL will be around the 650m mark not including the new Hotel revenue.

You also left out the part about the NRL investing only 50m of its planned 300m worth of investments.

While the AFL have lifted revenue by investing over 270m in marvel with a loan.

In Time NRL will find investments to the tune of 250m, this will lift NRL revenue considerably.

I stand by what i said, the current comparison is like a mirage and not near 300m gap as PR said.

Revenue from Marvel is much larger than in 2019, 130-140m in revenue from the stadium from all sources.

Once the NRL finds its investments then you will get a clear idea of the revenue of both codes.

At this very moment the revenue talk is a apples vs oranges comparison, once the NRL makes its planned 250m more in investments then it will be a fair comparison.

Like WB said it took the AFL 20 years to build up that position, the NRL built up its position in less than 10 years.

''The NRL reported equity of 201m (187 cash) in 2022. The AFL reported 314m* (178m cash) in 2022.''

The AFL net position is not 314m, that includes the 87m Grant for the Marvel stadium refurb.

Its much lower than that.

The year the AFL purchased the stadium with a loan below.

Liabilities 78m to 291m
Revenue from 569m to 752m
Future fund of 89m now at $0
Net position from 124m to 185m

2017 AFL net position 185m
2022 AFL net position 314m - 88m Gov Grant = 226m

Cash position minus Gov Grant 90m
1698428514092.png
1698428903037.png

2017 NRL Net position 56m
2022 NRL net position 193m or close to a 4 fold increase.

Cash position 182m.
1698428575214.png

All of that done without expansion to swell the Broadcast rights or NRLW or Pacific championship.

If we play our cards right, good time's ahead.

The AFLs rights deal kicks in this year (including the much loved Telstra component) - the AFL will hit 920m+ this year. Without grants. And with a massive year at Marvel and the MCG to bank on (this years finals series will have handed over massive revenue from tickets and corporates).

You also left out the part about the NRL investing only 50m of its planned 300m worth of investments.

I didnt, becauise they havent done anything with it. but recognise the goal and happy to revisit it when they do.

While the AFL have lifted revenue by investing over 270m in marvel with a loan.

The loan was 185m in the 2016-17 report. Funds from the future fund made up the rest, which is pretty much what the future fund was designed for.

1698448419662.png

That loan is entirely paid off too...they paid 90m off their loans last year.

That depends on the investment.

Revenue from Marvel is much larger than in 2019, 130-140m in revenue from the stadium from all sources.

Thats guess work.

Once the NRL finds its investments then you will get a clear idea of the revenue of both codes.

We have a very clear idea of the revenues now.

Like WB said it took the AFL 20 years to build up that position, the NRL built up its position in less than 10 years.

Its a good point, but I also think that the AFL wasnt really trying to build up to that position for 20 years. It was getting this asset for very little in 2025.

''The NRL reported equity of 201m (187 cash) in 2022. The AFL reported 314m* (178m cash) in 2022.''

The AFL net position is not 314m, that includes the 87m Grant for the Marvel stadium refurb.

No it doesnt, but its close. It includes $77.9m in restricted cash for the development.

1698447523088.png

The venue is worth 147m on the AFLs balance sheet, not 250.

1698447616605.png

Reserves back up to 10m

1698447718944.png

Let me be clear: Im not saying the NRL isnt doing great things - it is. And its long overdue. Im a firm believer in strong competition being the thing both comps need to reach greater heights.

I watched my NHL team play yesterday, The game finished at 4pm our time. 2pm Sunday and the 3pm Sat game goes perfectly into that

Huh? I’m in New York atm and it is a quarter to nine Friday night (11:45 am Sydnry time) However you want to spin it there are not many times that would be actually suitable for a large audience to watch over here.

It’s not a terrible thing per se but the idea that we are going to get a lot of Americans watching NRL at a time that it suitable for them is fanciful.

Golden State v Kings starts in an hour. That game will go to 4pm our time.

The aim would be to get games on Fox Sports 1 on a Sat night and get people at a sports bar, Kind of like how the EPL works here.

I often see people hanging around after the NRL finishes to watch the EPL. That sort of stuff is possible but the majority of games of course won't be seen

That’s like saying if o get a better job I’ll have more revenue lol. Sure the nrl plans to invest in revenue raising assets, great, Dave smith tried to make that happen ten years ago till the clubs wnated the money instead. let’s see it happen quickly otherwise year on year that gap will remain as afl has already invested in its major asset and nearly paid it off. It’s massively undervalued on theor books ant the moment,
Alongside that in 2025 the afl revenue will jump massively again when the new media deal kicks in whilst nrl is locked into a minor uplift from now until 2028.

last years revenue gap was biggest ever, but yeh Vlandys is doing a great job lol. Just need to get those yank gamblers on board and we’ll be sweet eh?
Player depth from college footballers, revenue growth from American gamblers, usa usa usa!

Some people just like to whinge. Yes every time slot won't fit in but there will be some live games
At least if people are going to troll put some thought into it

the funniest one I read was where the govt isn’t allowed to sign a contract for the png funding

It's not whinging. You provided a timeslot that would be competing with one of their big 4 sports, but quoted end time for 1 and start time for the other to make it look like 1 could lead into the other. This idea that fox would put the NRL on fox sports 1 over any of their big 4 sports is delusional.

Well no because a huge slab of that revenue is upgrades for the an asset they own.

Revenue was but due to Govt grants, That is an irregularity

Including govt grants as revenue is kind of desperate

it would be like nrl clubs including poker machine turnover In their figures

the fact is in three years vlandys has built up the same net assets as afl over 40 years (way back to when they owned Waverley)

afl is literally copying his ideas revenue generation with their magic round

When we don't have daylight savings here i.e. Majority of the NRL season those times are 9 and 10PM pacific and midnight and 1am eastern.

None of our usual slots really work in America.

You are saying no one will be at a Sports bar until Midnight on a Sat night?
