Did we all come out and say the NRL lacked ambition when the AFL tried to take a game to China? No we all ridiculed it for being unrealistic.

We've got people on here claiming that 6am games are going to get more viewers than the biggest sport and league in the world (that is shown at a much better time).

We've got people on here claiming that we are going to be earning hundreds of millions of dollars a year for playing 2 games.

The same people who praise our rivals for trying things don’t want to see the same ambition in our great sport

afl had a crack at nz and China and failed miserably

this doesn’t mean we will fail our sport is obviously a far better product than afl and has a lot of similarities to American football

My firm view is that Perth should be team 18. There's too many hurdles for PNG to overcome, even if it gets government money. For example, how are they going to compete on the field? How many home grounds will PNG have? Travel etc.

With Las Vegas, I am more open minded. Let's see how it goes. Kinda hoping that something else pops up in the Las Vegas/ American venture that is more beneficial to the game then getting a piece of the gambling market. Betting on sports is a mugs game. However, PVL does have experience in this space (gambling market), so let's see what transpires.

I don't think we see a stand alone PNG side.

There are a few guys with Business interests in the US associated with the game, That gives me some home that the games won't lose money

Agree with all but differ in that NZII should be the 18th team. Perth’s only offering over another NZ team is geographic location to justify the ‘N‘ in NRL although I would like to see them included next. To me, a genuine NZ derby would do a lot to gain more fans and player talent from within New Zealand and possibly the PI region. The ‘All Blacks’ brand is untouchable of course but a local RL derby could/would put a dent into rugby’s domestic comp over there although our Kiwi brothers on here might right that off fantasy. I think that currently there’s more to gain in NZ, short and long term than Perth. Sponsors wouldn’t be an issue as there’s a tonne of crossover brands between here and there plus NZ brings a larger population providing a bigger boost on the next tv deal, you’d think.
