It wouldn't cop shit if they just called it the team of the year. They deliberately try to latch on to the prestige of representing Australia when the players never actually put the work in and play against other countries.

Its a legacy from back when the team was picked from the state championships and origin sides

Interesting then that the international rules team and the all Australian teams had so few of the same players in them. It’s a publicity stunt.

The international rules sides were picked for the specific game most of the time, or the players werent made available through injury or club politics. International rules sides arent exactly the same as an AFL lineup

Do they make a big stink of it in the wasteland states? Having never lived in one I'm wondering if its like Origin/Country selection up here where we all wait on the teams and argue selections. Or is it just named and nobody cares.

Fair enough. Why not just do team of the year at the awards night like we do with the Dally M then?

You might get more media mileage out of separate events. So you get the AFLCA medal, the AFLPA medal, the Coleman medal, the rising star and the AA anouncement on Fox, and then the Brownlow is a separate event on Seven.

When you dont have internationals, or a post season, you try to make everything bigger that you can. See also Trade Week and the draft.

Yeah, the key to that statement is " the right to buy the NRL FTA rights", what does that mean, Foxtel keep their STB and streaming rights.

Not sure Stan will just let Fox keep them but no doubt they know where they stand with them.

Ch10 has issues so getting that cleared up 1st is key before you can bring Paramount plus in
