PVL’S SUPER SIZED GIFT

Fast food chain McDonalds has shot a TV commercial for the rugby league season including Parramatta Eels skipper Mitchell Moses and independent commission chairman Peter V’landys. V’landys was offered a $20,000 fee for appearing in the advertisement. Typical of his generosity towards charities, he donated the $20,000 straight to Ronald McDonald house.

For inevitable comparison

The AFL reported an underlying operating surplus of $45.4 million in 2024, compared with an underlying operating surplus of $27.7 million in 2023 – an increase of $17.7 million. This result includes the AFL’s controlled state subsidiaries and Marvel Stadium.

The AFL’s operating revenue increased by $72.3 million due to a combination of contractual increases in broadcasting revenue, improved returns from Marvel Stadium, sponsorship and other consumer related revenues.

This revenue was used to fund the following investments:

• $420.8 million to AFL clubs (up from $393.8 million in 2023)
• $92.3 million to Game Development (up from $89.7 million);
• $63.7 million in running the AFLW competition (up from $57.2 million);
• $49.9 million to the AFLPA which includes contribution to player development, Injury and Hardship programs and Retirement fund (up from $41.5 million);
• $12.6 million to infrastructure comprising of elite and community facilities and contributions for stadia redevelopments (down from $14.4 million); and
• $1.3 million to corporate and social responsibility initiatives (up from $0.9 million).

Fumblers running lower profits whilst they had a bump in their tv deal of around 50 million

Each afl clubs receives 23.3 million vs around 18 million for nrl clubs but their squad sizes are close to double

And they have to fund the two basketcases they added

Profit isnt everything. The AFL has a different way of funding things to the NRL.

Each afl clubs receives 23.3 million vs around 18 million for nrl clubs but their squad sizes are close to double

EACH club receives nothing of the kind. The average is blown out by the funding for 4 or 5 clubs including the ones they have, but EACH club receives vastly less.

And they have to fund the two basketcases they added

thats included in the distributions, not separate.

Well if you had half a clue what you are talking about when it comes to AFL finance I wouldnt need to clarify your bullshit
If you had half a clue you wouldn’t post profit figures for comparison and then throw a tanty when they are compared

Those two basketcases are going to be a drag on profits for decades and that’s before Tasmania gets added

lol throwing a tanty.. Disagreeing with you on how profit is derived isnt throwing anything.

Maybe,, but the league can afford it and the clubs arent complaining so who gives a damn except people like you.

The relevance to a Pvl thread is tenuous

Kind of notice me post

I’m sure there’s an afl forum somewhere that you could post it on

You dont do yourself any favours sometimes lol

1. The surplus is up not down
2. Why would they have a $50mill tv bump? Its the same deal they had in 2023.
3. Its not profit, its surplus. Given a lot of expenditure areas are discretionary, an increase in surplus may be a missed opportunity to invest more in core elements of the sport. Surplus may look good but in reality it may come with missed opportunity.

I didn’t say it was down

I said it was less than the 58 million the nrl made

I would rather a surplus where the game is increasing its assets than being stuck funding those two awful expansion sides that nobody really watches

But each to their own Pvl sees different goals than the afl

Well that and the AFL already has the assets it wanted. Like the big stadium thing they bought 8 years ago.

It’s a thread about Pvl

Just bc you are trying to get clicks to that “website” you run this isn’t the thread for it
for a change we agree, should be in the 2025 annual report thread.

What is interesting, and does reflect on Vlad, is how much over $720mill (as reported in the NRl's revenue forecast Oct 2024) is for 2024. 2023 revenue was $701mill. We'd want to see more than a 3% revenue increase Id have thought?

AFL made less Profit than last year.

''This movement is due the operating result of $45.4 million and offset by other working capital movements of -$22.7 million''

''The AFL's cash balance at the end of the financial year increased from $164.0 million to $186.7 million. ''

22m as opposed to 27m last year.

Looks like less profit to me.

Yes they have increased spending but nonetheless that looks like a reduction in profit.
