No multi-purpose stadiums anywhere again. Ever. Auckland might get away with it because they don’t have AFL and because their design considers that Rugby draws bigger crowds than cricket, but in every Australian city besides Brisbane the oval sport users draw bigger than rectangular sports, so the oval sports will always be prioritised here.
Yeah nah, not in NSW or QLD and rectangular sports drive the majority of sports tourism events.

Yeah, AFL did that deliberately out at Olympic stadium and they a proud as piss of themselves for it.
The NRL needs to be malicious with AFL and totally screw with their dream of having a 60k Brisbane oval stadium via the olympics.
Yep pay whatever to have it converted to rectangular after the games

The AFL are running scared of Peter V. He’s living rent free in their heads. Look at how he handled the COVID crisis. A lot of people laughed when the NRL plotted a plan to overcome the impact of COVID . It was one of the first codes to resume. A few weeks later the AFL followed . Just like they copied the NRL judiciary.

I caught the Offsiders on the ABC about a month ago and couldn’t stop laughing. Somebody called Corbin was talking about the Alfred cyclone situation. He said that the different ways the NRL and ARL handled it reflected the difference between the NRL and the AFL ie the NRL treat their players as “employees” whereas the AFL treat their players as “family”.

I wondering if any of the heads of Rugby Union are watching him thinking he could be the right manto sort the financial mess the game is around the major nations.

The AFL definitely tries to protect its players when there is an off field incident more than the NRL, which is quite pathetic from them really.

Queensland government paid $126 million in 2009 ($187 million in 2024 numbers) to rebuild Carrara Stadium for the incoming Suns (as the sole tennant) - exact same scenario as this, but NIB stadium actually has existing cotennants. Below are the crowds leading up to this investment.

Meanwhile we have Western Australian Newpapers (and premiers) complaining about contributing $55 million. while we get 31k this year.

context is everything. 1. Its a Liberal paper that runs anti Labor stories every other day 2. Its a Ch7 owned paper that doesnt want a Ch9 sport muscling in 3. Its AFL loving and doesnt want NRL muscling in.

There was no such negativity from this paper in 2012 when Barnett and the Libs were pushing for entry of the WC Pirates and spent $130mill on HBF. surprise surprise

The stadium upgrade is just a political football being kicked around. It will happen eventually.
