Exactly.
Whose idea was this rule change? It was absurd. They should not just get rid of it but who ever asked for it to be brought in should be cancelled and a list made of whoever their friends are.
Annesley was the prime mover for 6 agains

Covid gave him and PVL a chance to make this change and go back to 1 ref

The rah rah match was poor quality. The Lions looked like they weren’t trying too hard in defence for most of the match with lots of half hearted tackling attempts , basically just falling over .Extremely scrappy stop start spectacle. Very difficult to sit through it .

Funniest past was a scrum being stopped for the overweight Lions forward to go to the sideline to change his boots. Had to be supported by a mate to get his shoes off . BTW Rugby Joe was a turnstile in defence. Didn’t stand out in that respect because defence wasn’t a priority in this match. But according to the commentators the Wallabies were brave and it was a great spectacle.

The defensive line back 8 metres instead of 10 .Would have to paint 1 metre grids on the field . Would be easier for the defensive line to get set and might speed up the ptb slightly , although things in theory don’t always translate into reality. A bit like in vitro versus in vivo research.

1 metre grids would also help the bunker with offside kick chasers. Although Teddy might still be able to teleport himself to avoid being detected. Reece doesn’t have that skill in his kit bag. Yet. Can do just about everything else though .

Mentioned in the game day thread, but 6 agains, while good need a tweak. Especially in the last 5 with a team down by 4. A penalty needed to be called instead of 6 again
Coaches clearly hate the other team getting scrums feeds inside their (defensive teams) red zone. We should consider getting rid of 6 again on the run and bring in penalties being restarted by scrum with the first play being a free play.
This would be something defensive coordinators would hate but all of the rest of us would love. The defense could also then challenge the penalty (eg not square of offside) if they believe it is BS.

PVL is obsessed with the AFL and is taking a very big game.

If we really want to compare deals, we need to apply a little indexation. Say, 3%. The splits the AFL’s $4.5m deal as follows:

2025 $587m
2026 $605m
2027 $623m
2028 $642m
2029 $661m
2030 $681m
2031 $701m

If was apply the same to the NRL for the next deal, just beating the AFL:

2028 $643m
2029 $662m
2030 $682m
2031 $702m
2032 $723m
2033 $745m
2034 $767m

So, getting more than $643m does not necessarily beat the AFL. It needs to be well over $700m per year.
This quote from The Art of War by Sun Tzu could apply to the AFL :

“When the general is weak and without authority , when his orders are not clear and distinct , when there are no fixed duties assigned to officers , and men and the ranks are formed in a slovenly haphazard manner , the result is disorganisation”

Snoop Dog anyone ?

Scrums? To restart after a penalty? Sorry but that's dumb. Scrums offer a chance (however slim) of enabling the team that conceded the penalty to immediately regain the ball. Further, it also enables the offending team to get a rest an set up its defence as its a stoppage. Not a good idea I'm afraid.
