Meanwhile the Sydney Morning Herald are trumpeting the fact that apparently the Wallabies v Lions 3rd test at Accor generated more money than the equivalent show at the same venue by Taylor Swift. Quick , break open the bottles of Pimm’s !

Forget the fact that Taylor Swift had 4 concerts at the venue. And that average ticket prices for the rah rah match were higher. Talk about clutching at straws. Nothing about the dire TV ratings
I still don’t see how a bunch of fat old Poms coming over once every 12 years is somehow going to resurrect rugby in this country. I’m happy for our pubs and hotels to take their money, however.

This quote from the SMH Facebook page in reply from Mark Speirs doesn’t miss :

“Won’t the big knobs of Rugby Australia be happy with that! Lining their pockets again , meanwhile you can go to a first grade club rugby match in Sydney , park on the hill ,watch dogs run across the field and stand in a line of 3 and get a sausage sandwich and a can of coke from an esky while the kids slide down the grass hills on pieces of cardboard. So much progress .”

A game that survives almost exclusively on a ten match tour every 12 years, three test matches a year, a small tv deal and hand outs from the international governing body?

You attend a private school because you are from a rich family, everyone at the school are from rich families, after your attendance at the best school go onto university with your rich mates, get an amazing job because you have a college education and are friends with everyone you need to know ..get an amazing paying cushy job.
Put on your best blazer to watch the Wallabies.. dislike League because of it's appeal to everyday people and the simple rules make it so easy to follow that you don't need a college education to understand what's happening and why a penalty is blown..

Then you're amazed to find that Union has no wider appeal..

The plight of the Union faithful.

“The Australian Financial Review reported earlier this year that the NRL is now pocketing more than $50 million annually from wagering agreements.”

That’s another reason Pvl was apppinted. His premium rate hikes on events like origin and the gf are a key part of this
