Too Precious to come back and coach NSW even though tactically he knows how to beat Qld.
I really don't think he does. The "if I could do it right" stuff he drags out whenever he is asked if he'll coach NSW again is a smokescreen; by now, the NSWRL should be beating down the door of anyone with half an idea as to how to run an Origin campaign. When Wayne Bennet took over and redeveloped the Queensland program, the cattle weren't there... yet. His system ensured they would be in the future.
Gould is not willing to take on the job because he doesn't know how to fix the system and the players he would need to make an immediate impact are not there. If NSW had a team of world-class superstars at their disposal, you would need to pry the coaching position from Gould's cold, dead hands.
So far as the rest goes, complete agreement. Sterlo loves his Eels and is obviously in favour of NSW, but he doesn't let it get away from him in commentary. Ray Warren can no longer tell Anglo-Saxon/Caucasian/Etc players apart from Islanders and Indigenous players, and was never that great to begin with. Wally tries hard, but lacks the talent to commentate. Fatty and Fittler are usually good for a laugh, but expecting sensible commentary from them is a lost cause. Johns is worse still. Andrew Voss is a complete dribbler, and while Hadley has potential he needs to realise that we can see the action for ourselves too.
That they needed to bring in a cricket commentator to restore some vague semblence of dignity to the NRL Footy Show pretty much says it all about the commentary team. I can't blame Sterlo for not wanting to be back there either; he was the only one actually interested in talking about the football instead of clowning around.
