THE NRL has heeded the lessons from last season's cursed advertising campaign, opting for a generic approach in 2010 rather than a potentially volatile stable of pin-up boys.

With the game's three anointed faces of 2009 - Brett Stewart, Greg Inglis and Matthew Johns - consecutively brought undone by high-profile personal drama, the new safety-first package has been compiled from exciting action footage and fan faces.

Sport Confidential has also been told last year's Wes Carr anthem Feels Like Whoa will be dumped in favour of an atmospheric musical score without lyrics.

A draft was completed late last year, but drew immediate fire after officials noticed the creative agency did not include a single image of either the Broncos or the Bulldogs.

It was an a minor oversight to say the least, considering those clubs happen to be the two most-watched NRL teams in Australia.

I find it quite funny they left Broncos and Bulldogs out of the draft version, what kind of joke advertising company is this?

Looking forward to a total disaster if they can't even include the two most popular teams on TV....

Complete overkill. They just have to be more careful in the 'pin-ups' that they choose.

I understand that at this time last year, Stewart and Inglis would have seemed like safe choices, but there are plenty of players out there that they could easily use who are dead set sure things.

Names like Preston Campbell, Nathan Hindmarsh, Kurt Gidley, Alan Tongue... I'm sure we could come up with another 20-30 with minimal effort.

It's not that f**king hard is it.

Get some footage of some big hits set to some rock music with slashing guitars and repeat.

Somebody get the NRL to PM me so I can tell them where to send the cheque to.

Bring back blow that whislte ref....and i was 7 again.

League is not that hard to market, but its like the NRL think it is netball and they need some whizz bang BS to try and sell the game.

Their ads for the centenary season were the best sports marketing I have seen - more of that please.

Personally I don't mind leaving Brisbane and Canterbury out. We want to attract fans!

But forget the sponsers, nobody is going to invest in a game that has a team like Cronulla.

Wasn't that an awesome idea. Poetry to sell League to the masses.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

That isnt an oversight... they want to attract fans to games, not show images of Bulldog supporters trashing trains, or throwing bottles on the field etc....

Loud rock music - scantily clad women with large breasts - blokes smashing the sh*t out of each other - couple of tries - supporters going apesh*t - saints fans crying when they lost yet another finals match

Reckon that should cover it :p

Lets face it - it's rugby league - we'll be watching even if the ads had flowers and kittens in them.

The NRL just wants to avoid looking like a pack of c**ks and the easiest way to do that is not include high profile players who end up in the media or even worse, court.

Of course we'll be watching it. It's about attracting new supporters.

In that case go with the kittens and the flowers

All the people that love rock music and random acts of violence already watch

Misrepresentation for the win!
