Everyone is going on how PJ is going to solve or half back woes.
i'd really like to have your confidence. We tried him at halfback and he wasn't going well at all. He wasn't steering the team around the park.
He was most effective at hooker. If played in the halves which I assume he will be I really hope he goes well.

I think we can say goodbye to Morris beyond 2005. I doubt very much that he'll resign now. Quite ironic as BS was chasing him before he had resigned Marsh in 2001

Smith went after Morris late in the year, PJ signed with the Warriors stright after the June 30 deadline.

he will not reach the fitness level required to play halfback, so early in the season, especially after such an injury.

he will need some time to settle in IMO

Toss Marsh, Witt and Morris up in the air and where ever they land thats where you play them. The numbers on their backs next year will mean bugger all, however as long as at least one is kept in the 7 jersey that shall be fine IMO.

Marsh may not start the season at halfback but by halfway through that may be a different story. The fact he excelled at hooker was more through necessity at the Warriors than anything else.

I think Marsh can make a good halfback. We know what he can do at hooker, but I reckon he's worth a shot at half too. With Witt and Morris both in the side, one on the bench they can sort of play around with combinations.

The last time MArsh played 1/2 on a full time basis was before he had more then 5 games in 1st grade.

How many halfs have been world beaters have less then 5 games??

he filled in well at half during our heyday

when jt had a rest, we were perhaps more lethan in attack, only worse at kicking goals

we even rested jt for a few games in 2001 and it made no difference

pj is magic. he can offer us so much more than witt

I've said it before....I believe we may have made the top 4 had he been in the 7 in 02 with dykes outside him....

Not only would that have meant talent in our ranks, it also would have meant stability, a point not to be missed.
We bought McFaden instead. As much as I was, at the time happy with that purchase, I agree that we would have been far better off with PJ.

PJ was gone before McFadden was signed.

McFadden gave 110% each time he played and wasn't as bad as some people made him out to be, but in saying that I would've prefered to have kept PJ for sure.

I know he was.
But given the choice.......
which is what I said.

I've always thought PJ's loss hurt us more than any other.

By 2002, he would had been perfectly groomed to be a starting half...and as has been said, only went to hooker out of necessity at auckland

PJ moving to the Warriors was one of the smartest moves ever !!

He would have struggled in 2002 with the Eels as our forwards didn't adapt to the new style.
Everyone would have been hounding him as the reason for the demise of the Eels (and incorrectly)

Move to the Warriors. Play in a Grand Final. Eels struggle.

But before everyone wets themselves over PJ's return and where they will play him, Gordon Tallis is a reminder that his career may be over with one bad tackle as he is now injury prone.

Necks are very serious and delicate injuries.

I hope for PJ'S sake, and nothing else, that he never suffers this form of injury again.

I will never get John Farragher out of my mind.

I can't see him playing any hooker because of his neck injury. Last thing he's going to want to do is be charging through big boofy forward sticking their arms out as he runs by. I don't know how they'll line up at start of year but by the finish I'd like to see:
6. Marsh 7. Smith or 6. Perenara 7. Marsh
Based on the fact that one of these two will live up to the wraps placed on them and we'll then have a truly formidable halves combination (or if Witt's game suddently develop). I don't think we can win a premiership with Morris in the halves.

I have placed morris in my halves combo a few times. But he isnt any good there either really. His kicking game is a long way from descent and his passing game also needs work. He is a perfect utility as he isnt good at paticular positions. 1 eyed eel is right. Morris will not win us a premiership.

Brian Smith must have felt that losing PJ was one of the biggest mistakes of his career. He's got another chance with him so hopefully he makes the best of it. Parra tried tough negotiation techniqes and it backfired, a lesson for the future methinks.

We need a number 7 who has a good kicking game also. Idon't think Marsh has that. Perhaps Marsh can play 7 and Witt 6.
We have some great junior talent coming through also.
If out of Tim Smith, Perenara and Green, one of them make the grade we should be happy if at least 2 make it then even better.

People just be aware that perhaps 1 of these 3 guys mentioned might not be at the club after next year. In Prem League You can play 2 of them in the halves and perhaps one of them in Flegg, it might work. If we go great guns then they might all stay and fight for a spot
