Souths Interested In Marsh
13/08/2004 11:44 AM NewstalkZB

South Sydney has become the first club to officially express interest in PJ Marsh after his release from the Warriors.

Souths boss Shane Richardson has confirmed he is keen to lure Marsh to the club, pending a medical clearance.

Marsh has not played for the Warriors for more than a year, after suffering a serious neck injury.

He underwent his second bout of surgery in May, but is confident of being given the all-clear to resume his career in October.

Doesn't sound too bad MArsh won't rush into a decision but it kinda rules out the possibility Marsh has already signed as I read in another post.

I don't think there'll be any further public/official news on PJ until the doctor's verdict in October.

How much 5/8th did he play at the Warriors with Stacey Jones?? I always considered him a halfback/hooker.

I remember reading an articale in the offseason after 2001 where PJ said he was looking forward to playing 5/8 outside Jones and that the main reason he left Parra was to get a chance to play 5/8. As it turned out he became a dynamic hooker but I still think he would be effective in 6, 7 or 9.

Does that mean in 2 days time you'll say that your confident he'll be an Eel??

You said that Parra can make the 8 then they cant then changed your mind again.

Just pick one side of the fence already ;-)

I think because PJ is effective at 6, 7 or 9 he'll be a very good option if he comes through at 14 - that becnh utility role that would solve a whole lot of potential problems.

I,m not at all confident he'll be an Eel. Parra usually find a way to balls things up!

And I'm not convinced that he'll be a good buy either. He was great for us 3 years ago as a youngster. BUt is the zip still there? And where would we play him? Hooker seems settles with Pig and Webster. 5/8 is a battle between Morris and Wagon #-o , and Witt surely should be halfback. I mean, how many hookers can Smith fit into the side?

Another thing - he's yet another player who is damaged goods.

I'd play him at half back, ahead of Witt. He has got a just as good, if not better kicking game, has a lot more zip and isn't afraid to get in their, call the shots and be the go to man.

PJ is, after all, a half back, despite playing alot of hooker, and a bit of 5/8 outside stacey jones, he is a half back. He never really got the chance to play half on a regular basis, behind JT and then JOnes.

But having said that, there is a hell of a long way to go, even if we sign him, before he'd be ready to slot in and play 80 minutes week in week out at half, because as Misty said, he is damaged goods. Assuming his neck gets the all clear...he'd still need to get his head right and confidence back.

I'm with you Ron, provided he gets a medical clearance of course. I just can't see him going to any other club.

Assuming we get PJ Marsh and assuming he is ready to play the full 80minutes, having him on the bench is offensive. If we get him he will be starting. You see the first question PJ will ask after the contract amount is where will I be playing?? He will not come if he is coming from the bench. He is way too good for that. He will be our 6 or 7.

Redback: A bit, still not perfect but ok

Avenger: If his form warrents it he'll be the 6 or 7 and I highly doubt he'll be ready to play 80 mins from round 1 by mid year however.......
