plausible reason for driving unregistered car

i copped a 600 dollar fine for driving my car 2 days out of rego, my fault entirely i really needed to drive my car, but thats not the point of this question, i was informed by the officer (who was a really awesome dude who didnt charge me for not having my license on me and let me driver back home) that the only plausible reason for driving the car would be driving it to a mechanics for a slip evaluation or to a mechanics to get it fixed. i live in lismore but my sister lives just outside nimbin where my address is registered with rta. my brother in law said it would be acceptable to drive out there and if the cops did pull me up i could just reply im taking it back from the mechanics to my place of residence to fix the things in the slip evaluation

Is there a mechanic in nimbin and have you made an appointment with them?? What's most likely to happen is the next cop will give you the fine and let you argue it in court. Good luck getting a mechanic to lie for you. Btw all highway patrol cars have anpr now so you'd better hope you don't pass one on the 30k trip to your sisters. It could get real expensive real quick.

The cop sounds like a douche. I never book anyone if their rego is a day or 2 out. But they can't drive their car after I speak to them.

I tend to agree CH, ie about not being booked for being 1-2 days out. It wasn't that long ago that my son was caught out. He wasn't allowed to drive any further but we fixed up his rego the same day. No fine.

It should be the standard procedure for minor stuff like this, unless the douche was actually the driver.

Yeah if the driver is acting like an idiot then he is guaranteed a fine. Most generals police have a bit of leeway with registration. Traffic cops not so much.
