Player Management and Player Signings

I thought I would share and discuss how the player management and player signing process typically works in the NRL. Some will know the business very well, for others, I hope that it might be a "wow" moment in terms of understanding how it all works.

Let's get straight into the controversial.

Our man Chad Townsend cannot and will not get dropped for the remainder of the season. Why? Because both Chad and Coach Josh Hannay belongs to the same Management Company - Pacific Sports Management. Interestingly, the same company as John Morris!

Our new Coach Craig Fitzgibbon belongs to Titan Sports Management (David Riolo), players in this Management Team include - Tariq Sims, Jai Arrow, Drew Hutchison, Sebastian Kris, Jackson Ford, Adam Elliott, Adam Clune to name a few. Most interestingly of course, our own Paul Gallen is with TSM.

Cronulla has a good mix of relationships with Management Teams and thankfully, we aren't tied to any one Player Agent. There are also case by case negotiations. GS Sports Management (Gillis and Schifcofske) we signed McInnes without anyone in the Rugby League world knowing about the negotiations, yet we lost Adam Reynolds to Brisbane.

In terms of player signings for 2022, we are fortunate that Fitzy is the only Head NRL Coach in Titans Sports Management, this will allow him first crack at the NRL talent at TSM should any players wish to move on.

I thought Dean Pay did well. His team had a dig, just No talent.
He was on a hiding to nothing.
Simple as that....and unfortunately they will probably afford golden boy Barrett as much time as he wants to get his side together.

Thanks for all that mate.

Now I am probably a bit naive but I have a lot of trouble understanding that just because Hannay and Chad are in the same Sports Management Company that means Chad is untouchable and can't be dropped.

Are you seriously saying Hannay has been told, "Hey mate, don't forget Chad is part of our Management team too, so remember you can't drop him."

If this is the case, then the game is royally f**ked.

For me, I'm old school. The coach is in charge, no one else.

One of our halves hammys will go ping between now and sunday and he'll get a reprieve probably.

Probably but he’s still been dropped, just been called up due to injury.

I have no doubt we’ll see a Moylan/Johnson pairing not very often but would prefer Trindall comes in.

I don't think Chad gets a call up if SJ or Moyza are late withdrawals.
Trindall moves into the starting side and Pele or Magoulias to the bench, remembering Tracey is still there on the wing if needed in the halves.
Pele would be nice to see. f**k me the bench would have some impact then.

hope so. love or hate chad, or just tolerate him for technical reasons ... i see no good reason to continue with him in this aborted year.
