Players refusing to sing the National anthem in protest

To be fair to walker, he didn’t explicitly say it was racist, he said that the anthem doesn’t represent him or his family.

It probably doesn't represent every avenue of my history - from Irish Catholic convict stock; but by god it sends chills up my spine watching one of my sons belting out the anthem before kick off whilst playing for Australia.

The second line "for we are young and free" - clearly means the 6 British colonies becoming an independent federated country on 1st January 1901.
Yep, old Petey boy could see into the future.

I’m not sure of Walker’s reasoning, but I know of people who have said they don’t like the ‘young and free’ part because they don’t feel that it accurately describes themselves and their family history.

I couldn’t care less whether the players sing hum or ignore the anthem. I’ll be belting it out regardless. Gets you in the mood for the game.

Anyone got any suggestions on how we appease everyone with a new anthem?

Is it sung in multiple languages? What themes does it need to include and avoid?

Do we need to have a postal vote on the top 10 proposals? Who whittles the entries down to a manageable number to vote on?

Yeah true, but for 99.9% of population that is exactly what most people take it as meaning. Maybe, because it has been rewritten a number of times this came in after Federation.

Needs to include a word from all 157 nations that people have came from, plus a word from around 150 aboriginal dialects from every aboriginal tribe before colonisation. Needs to get the adreline following like, "Star Spangled Banner" or "God defend New Zealand" - should be an easy task.

this is getting ridiculous... sport is becoming too political... Is it just me or I just want to seem my State play some footy and not turn it into some political statement... The national anthem doesn't mention Latvians either and their is a Latvian community in Australia.
Next we'll have to change the name of New South Wales and Queensland because they are both Colonial names, even Arnhem Land needs to change, that's Dutch!!!!

Why do we even care whether they all sing it ffs?. I’ve watched players not join in for decades. Who gives a feck?
