Except there won't be GB team in the world cup.

GB as a full-time composite side will cease in 2007, and England will be the main team out of the British Isles.

Brian Carney won't qualify to play for England, nor would I suscpect he would elect to even if he could.

I doubt all of them except Finnignan will still be playing in 2008!

This was the Irish squad for the 2000 WC.

Terry O'Connor (capt), Liam Bretherton, Brian Carney, Gavin Clinch, MIchael Eagar, Mark Forster, Ian Herron, Tommy Martyn, Steve Prescott, Ryan Sheridan, Michael Withers, David Barnhill, David Bradbury, Kevin Campion, Chris Joynt, Johhny Lawless, Jamie Mathiou, Barrie McDermott, Luke Ricketson, Paul Southern, Danny Williams, Martin Crompton.

How many have played since? I'd say two or three at most.

Barrie McDermott must be about 40 now?

Looking at that squad, it seems like a long time ago. Half the squad's retired, Mark Foster former Rugby player was about 35 I think when he played.

Michael Withers would play. Pat Richards I remember were gonna pick him for the World Cup that year, but was injured or deemed to be too young. Is Column Halpenny still playing?

Halpenny plays for Wakefield and qualifies under the parent rule but has, to my knowlege, not played in the ENC in recent years. A lot of players in the 2000 squad were at or nearing retirement age and I reckon that's why they played for Ireland.

Stuart Littler, Gareth Haggerty, Karl Fitzpatrick, Anthony Stewart,
Michael Platt, Paul Handforth are all super league players who qualify as well as David Bates, Martin McLouglin and Dean Gaskell from lower divisions.
