Players who have excelled in positions they grew up not playing.

Aka similar to what Cooper Cronk has done. A player who was manufactured into a position he didnt grow up playing but excelled anyways through hard work, discipline and commitment. How many other players are going around who fit the bill? I know Joe Galuvao started as a fullback and gradually moved into the forwards where he has been a reliable backrower.

Tons of backline players probably grew up playing in the halves due to being the best players in the team

Pretty much this.

Nick Youngquest for example was a gun 5/8 in juniors, but only ever made it on the wing in NRL.

lockyer was a 5/8 as a kid but became a great fullback before switching back to 5/8

matt adamson was a winger who became a decent second rower

pretty sure fui fui played in the centres in yawnion before becoming a porp in league

i think Cronks transformation is the most amazing i've seen though

Pretty sure Buderus played in the halves until around his late teens.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the greatest 5/8 to ever play the game, Gareth Widdop, was originally a fullback.

Luke Bailey was a winger as a kid.
Matt Cooper was a prop when he was young.
Chief Harragon played centre in juniors.
G Stewart and Dave Taylor both played 5/8 I believe.

Sean Berrigan played pretty much everywhere, and given a season to settle into the position would often make the Australian side there.

This might be a tad old school but gene miles was a centre who moved into the pack and kicked arse on both positions

Didn't choppy close end up a prop when he started as a centre
