Dane Gagai was mainly a fullback/winger in the juniors and Brisbane wanted him to bulk up and move to centre last season to be Hodges' replacement. He was killing it there in QLD Cup to start the season so the Knights signed him and he's looked a superstar in his first year playing there.

He played mainly 5/8 at school.

Horrie played some time in the centres (got a card from '78 which says he is a centre) don't know if he started there though.

Sterlo started as a fullback, then Johnny Peard made him into a halfback

I'll name Souths players that i know played in different positions than they are now;

Inglis was primarily a fullback, and as we know he kicks arse there but he also kicked arse at centre in first grade. Actually he just kicks arse anywhere.

Merritt used to play 5/8 when he was a junior, as did Beau Champion.

Dylan Farrell played 5/8 and lock before moving to the centres.

John Sutton primarily played at centre in juniors.

Roy Asotasi was a scrum/fly half in union.

Issac Luke played fullback/wing whilst with the Dogs SG Ball.

Chris McQueen was a fullback/winger before moving into the forwards at Souths.

Dave Tyrrell, who primarily plays prop now, was a winger in the under 20's in 2008.

Jason Clark usually played in the halves as a junior, now he plays anywhere in the forwards.

That's all i can think of off the top of my head

what about Craig Wing.

At souffs his position was standing behind the goal posts as the oppostion scored try after try.

Then at Easts he excelled as a utility

Ellery. In the 1984/85 season, from wikipedia, "...scored a remarkable 55 tries in only 37 appearances, an achievement made even more remarkable as he switched between the several positions of wing, centre and stand-off". Or 5/8 for you guys. Went on to become GB's greatest loose forward.
Joe Lydon played for GB at fullback, wing, centre and 5/8. I'm new, so can't post links, but search for 'Joe Lydon drop goal' on youtube.

According to the grapevine Gus Gould went to Souths to play backrow and ended up coaching the joint.

lewis brown never played under 20's

matty sing was actually brought to penrith as a halfback then became one of the most solid wingers of the last 20 years

Lewis Brown played 20's for the Roosters and was a very good hooker. I was disappointed when we released him to the Tigers.

He played Jersey Flegg for the Roosters in `06, the equivalent U20s comp of the day.

Everyone goes on about Cooper Cronk moving to halfback...but what was he in his junior days? At utility he used to come on as hooker a bit...but I know as a youngster he used to be obsessed with accurate kicking...perhaps he was initially a 5-8, got moved elsewhere, and then became a halfback?

I was going to post something about this last night.

He grew up playing 7 and 6, it was only when he came to the Storm that he started playing different positions
