Titans prop Jacob Alick-Wiencke has expressed interest in joining the proposed Papua New Guinea NRL franchise, saying the opportunity to play in front of passionate home crowds every week would be “huge for the nation”.
The 25-year-old, who re-signed with Gold Coast until the end of 2025, has become a regular fixture in the PNG national team, earning 10 caps and starring during last year’s Pacific Championships. While committed to the Titans for now, he says a potential move to the NRL’s expansion team in PNG remains firmly on the table.
Absolutely (I’d play for them),” Alick-Wiencke told News Corp’s Sports Confidential. “It depends on contracts and where I’m at, but everything is an option.”
“It’s an exciting prospect to play in front of that crowd every week. You get goosebumps when you play for the country. If you’re doing that every week in the NRL, you’d get up for it,” he said.
“An NRL team playing there every week will be huge for the nation, and the juniors will have a pathway to live a better life.”
Despite the long-term possibilities, Alick-Wiencke is focused on contributing to the Titans’ ongoing campaign.

Playing in front of the country’s famously raucous rugby league fans is something Alick-Wiencke cherishes, and the idea of doing it every week has strong appeal.“It’s an exciting prospect to play in front of that crowd every week.
