PNG U19 league side to tour NQ

THE PNG U19 rugby league team would make a 10-day tour of North Queensland early next year.
Chairman of PNG Rugby Football League, Sir Bob Sinclair, said the tour will take the team to Townsville where they would play the Combined Cairns/Townsville side as curtain raiser to North Queensland Cowboys and NZ Warriors.
Sir Bob said five days later, PNG boys play a Mackay side as curtain raiser to NQ Cowboys and South Sydney in Mackay before returning.
Meanwhile, the Central Queensland Rugby Football League (CQRFL) has offered two scholarships to PNGRFL for their schoolboys programme.
Sir Bob last week confirmed that Central Queensland had agreed to offer scholarship to two PNG schoolboys.
“I am waiting for the representative of Central Queensland to sort out the scholarship arrangements before selecting which two players to attend,” he said.
Central Queensland RFLC are looking towards PNG after PNG schoolboys courageously finished third in the World Schoolboys rugby league tournament in Russia last month.
Australia won the championships after beating France in the final.

This guy in charge of the PNGRL is doing a bloody fantastic job. First the SP Cup with all those sponsors, the U16 world cup, the Kumuls presidents 13 defeating the junior Kangaroo's and now an U19 team. I think Sir Bob Sinclair is what PNG needed to make them a power house in international rugby league and i think that is his intention

Whilst people may bag out the ARL for its limited role in helping the international game, it did fund the PNGRFL to get the SP Cup back, it employed Sir Bob Sinclair and pays his wages so he can work on RL full time, and have contributed funds for both this tour, the Kumuls to Darwin and the Under 16's to the World Cup.

That said good on the PNGRFL for taking the support it is recieving and not only using it effectively, but taking steps to ensure its long term self-sufficency. So many nations in the past just spend their time relying on grants, the PNGRFL, is instead using the grants to help better their image in the corporate community, and thus get the sponsors on board which will guarentee their long term success.
