Anyone who thinks the arl should turn down between 750 million and a billion dollars is a fruit loop

Fumblers are getting over a billion for a team in a tiny place like Tasmania and they are all supportive of it

League is the national sport of png

Test matches v Australia will end up on par with origin
Agree. Why wouldn’t the nrl go for it? The worst that happens is that it fails and albo largely gets the blame for wasting money.

Some may see it as a 2-3 year money grab and go for it.
But let’s face it, moresby is a dangerous, hot place and they’ll need the tax incentives and more to get anyone there
Yep agreed.

It's a daft decision purely driven by politics.

V'landys got seduced by Tennis Albo throwing taxpayer money at it in a pathetic, cynical attempt at a legacy after his previous attempts ended in miserable failure.

A team in PNG where people love rugby league will have stronger future than a team in Perth which will simply be a commercial venture.

The spending is split roughly in half between the NRL club and other rugby league-related development activities in the Pacific.

$290m will go towards the NRL franchise and $250m is for rugby league programs in the region. $60m will be paid directly to the NRL as a licence fee, which is expected to be shared between existing clubs.

$120m of the money committed will come from existing government programmes, leaving an average annual cost to the budget of $48m.

Either way when it all ends in failure Tennis Albo will rightfully get the blame for it.
Who cares, besides, why would you want it to fail?
Who hates on a sporting team that represents a 3rd world country, I mean the warriors were homeless during covid, no one hated them, poor basterds had to slum it out in gosford where the fk is your heart!!!

Looks like funding isnt just going to grassroots in PNG:

"The partnership will support young people in the Pacifc, girls and boys, women and men, to play rugby league with a focus on PNG but also on Fiji, Tonga and Samoa."
The 10-year agreement will "support investment into grassroots, pathways and elite rugby league" across the Pacific.

“In Port Moresby, the demand is so high that some junior games have to be limited to as little as seven minutes each way to enable all teams an opportunity to play.”

Considering we're living in a f**king cost of living crisis where our own country's population is doing it tough, our so called government pissing money up a wall on a vanity project by funding a sports team in a foreign country (and third world one) at that is pretty f**king disgraceful.

The money Tennis Albo pissed down the drain on this could've been far better spent on helping Australians in this cost of living crisis.

But we all know he doesn't give a fat rat's arse about Australians doing it tough.

The sooner the election comes and this merkin is sent packing so he can f**k off to New York to work for the UN the better.
