f**king hell, no one cares about the broadcaster dude, they will eat whatever the arlc feed them..
Again ive said this before, the voting power is with the clubs themselves NOT the media, only murdoch will basically decide which bid wpuld be the less threatening and only coz of his stake in the broncos
Sure what the broadcasters want won’t be considered lmao

nrl tried to stand up to the broadcasters under smith and we saw how that went

Regardless of who footing this bill for a QLD5 based Pacifica club, its all about getting those pathways built from all the islands without having to fork out for it... if it fails in 5-10 years time, those pathways will still exist and can be re directed to the other existing clubs... its a win/win... by then there should be enough player talent to head into WA/SA/NZ2 and set up shop
They would be better off focusing energy on the pathways and facilities first and foremost. Far more affordable and by far, more suitable to the government’s Pacific agenda.

I am still left wondering how a club based in Australia, can assist government relations in the Pacific. Baffled actually.

Looks like bears lose out again lol

Tassell is in no doubt PNG can have its own NRL team run from PNG.
"Why should they share it with anyone else?" he said.

“When PNG do get in the NRL, they'll have the largest home game crowds, the largest sponsorships and largest fan base of any NRL team to exist," he said.”
Largest sponsorships. Haha, yeah right. They’ll have government sponsorship and the rest will be drastically less valuable than any other NRL club.

Exactly. Any team based in Australia is an Australian team. You can dress them in Black, Red and Yellow all you like, it will still be an Australian team.

The amount of coverage Fijian or even Fijian heritage NRL players get in the Fijian media is considerable.
A Fijian super rugby game played in Fiji made front page news as the lead story recently.
Multiply all those things sevenfold, both there and in any other Pacific nations involved if they had their own NRL team. Hearts and minds my friend, that`s what soft diplomacy is all about.

sure, but having a Fijian NRL team would be a bonkers idea. Let them keep playing in the NRL for the existing clubs and build them a first rate pathway for grassroots in Fiji for the number of Fijians represented in the NRL to increase.

A club team based in Aus is an Aus team, not Fijian, not PNGian and not Pacific Islands.

Keep craping on about channel 9 or whoever else, they might not even be the broadcast partner in 5 years time could be stan/7 for all we know

Good point. Broadcasters will have a say but we don’t even though who these broadcasters are

Basing it in brisbane makes it more attractive to broadcasters (any)
f**k me drunk, it doesnt matter, we as a sport don't need to be attractive to the broadcasters...
Expansion is about growth, not dots on a map, and right to a team via population, otherwise we'd have 2 perf teams by now, and another 5 Melbournes aswell
A PNG team or Pacifica team is to represent that growth area, so the NRL can pool players from those regions, its only been a great idea to them coz it was going to be underwritten by the govt, otherwise, it would be folly
