Yeah they'll end up with journeymen in it for a payday for years as conditions in the country improve and pathways for local talent are established.

So what?

In 15 years time young PNG players will have been developed to their potential and will dream to play for their own NRL team which will have existed for as long as they can remember. And it'll cost the NRL what?

Genuinely curious how many on here would travel for their teams away game in PNG?
If you’re on the fence what ‘guarantees’ would you need to consider it?

I would consider it …although only the once I think would be enough … I don’t expect the experience to be a particularly cultural one …. Probably a long weekend hanging out at the resort ….get on the coach to the game and back …fly home ..

Safety and security concerns would need to be addressed. The tax free contracts would interest players as one assumes with this compound living all accommodation and meals etc / FIFO would be paid for so players could bank their full contract payments.

If say on 800K for 3 years - 2.4 mill tax free which would buy you a property or 2 in AUS

would you give up the high life of an Australian city to live in a compound in a very humid crime ridden city for 3 years for $500k when your already bringing home $600k+ a year? Im sure some might but will it be the best ones? Time will tell. They better make the compound something special!

its clear that this side will be signing players on short term deals 1-2 years and will be mainly made up of younger fellas who might want a crack at nrl and could be stuck behind one or two same position players at their current clubs.

that doesn't mean those players will suck or anything just means whatever their current clubs are might not necessarily rate them as ready for nrl in front of whatever starting 17 incumbents they might be behind but it could be beneficial for them and career to get nrl exposure for a season or 2 in png.

i see a guy like sua behind paps. ok now he wouldn't go because he is at storm system but imagine the same scenario at a bottom 4 club and the young fella knows he is behind incumbent for at least 2 seasons but he and his manager believe he is ready for nrl to test himself and raise his value. why not give it a crack at papua?

i also think majority of young fellas that do this will be pasifika island back ground and i also think the club which will feel the pinch most from papua will be cowboys.
