PNG's back.

Maybe I'll end up being wrong but even if the PNG team can offer 20% more on wages to players I just can't see them ever being able to attract the players to become more competitive than a bottom four side to be honest.

First, from a commercial standpoint the PNG team will want a large amount of star PNG players involved in the team and the only player involved that fits that level would be Xavier Coates. The rest of the PNG national team (Or former representatives) are all older guys and don't really fit the keyword for "star player".

Second, when it does become time to go to the open market what kind of player will want to pack up and move to a developing nation? Lets use Latrell Mitchell as an example, make a million bucks a season in Sydney where he has mates, family, can dip off back home when he wants etc or make 1.2 million a season playing in Papua New Guinea? For me the only players they will attract are those from PNG or those with strong ties to PNG, apart from that they'll sign the guys not good enough for NRL who were probably Super League bound anyway and even then most people would prefer London or Perpignan to Port Moresby.
The 1 million he makes in AUS is taxed - be paid around 600k or so after tax
The 1.2 million he makes in PNG is tax free

Even if 1 million he will be paid 400k or so more per season in PNG Compared to AUS being tax exempt.

One assumes accommodation and meals etc will be provided and flights

I assume you get free rent in the compound … along with subsidised or maybe even free food shipped in from Australia …they will have canteens and restaurants inside the compound … so you won’t have to buy it outside the gates.

I can see tight arse players going over there… guys like Des Hasler and Garry Jack would have been all over it in years past ..

Let's not beat around the bush.

Single players will want chicks, white powder and play station.

Married players will need facilities where their partners don't get bored shitless.

It's going to be 1 - 2 year contracts.

Money motivates plenty of people I have met over the years ,,,, some can’t get enough …

The players will be back playing in Australia every two weeks or so and I’m sure they will be able to “get amongst it” for a night …

I’ll throw out a prediction that the other clubs whinge so much about the tax free thing that it will be changed after a few years ,,,

Even then. You aren't pulling your kids out of school, wife out of work for a short term deal.

You will get the players that have been in shit and need a another start or the mid tier guys wanting a huge payday.

Their players will come from their pathways. That being good is how the team is decent on field

never said they did … PNG can be asked to amend their tax laws though to change this exemption …
The Australian clubs don’t have the authority to make any request of a foreign government.

also NZL ? Relevance ? Who’s mentioned that ?
I mentioned it. Can’t believe I have to spell it out to be honest.

Everyone knows the tax rates in NZL & AUS are different. Therefore a player on the same salary in NZL as a player in AUS have a different take home pay. Which makes the salary cap between the Warriors and the Australian clubs effectively different. Just as PNG players will be tax differently to the players in Australian clubs. PVL has spoken publicly about the difference between AUS & NZL in regards to the cap recently.

Without the distractions of modern cities, it could be an opportunity for unknown up-and-comers to make a name for themselves or Brandon Smith-types looking to revive their careers. Reckon they’ll be well behaved while they’re there lol.

This is wrong .. there is no authority required to make a request of the PNG authorities… likely they would just get PVL to make the request for them

Not even bothering to read the rest of your unsolicited dribble

just keep talking about NZ tax to yourself Moron
Like I said. Your response shows my clear and easy win on the topic.

If you don’t understand how the only other country currently involved in the competition is relevant then that’s on you.

I won’t lower myself to name calling though.

Simple - this is a thread discussing the new team from PNG …

maybe you should start a new tax thread to talk about the other countries - that would be exciting Im sure …
