There is a comments section under that video & some poster named trentisnotthereanymore predicted the NRL to have much larger tv rights money which in turn will allow PNG entry into the competition in 2020-2022.

For a prediction going back over a decade that wasnt a bad stab at it.

Nrl seem to be cooling on investing in super league

Can’t see non Sydney clubs or the qrl allowing conferences either

Everyone wants to play the Sydney clubs
Not sure it’s about wanting to play the Sydney clubs- more not wanting the Sydney clubs to have an even bigger travel advantage which will likely lead to a recruitment advantage

Conferences only work if everyone is segemented off from each other, by the furtherest team inwards
So
*NZ plus the most eastern teams in Nsw,
*Perth and most western Nsw teams,
*PnG and most northern clubs (qld),
*Storm plus most southern nsw teams
That way no one can claim anything other than geographic affiliation, there's no bias or fixing, no excuses to be in whatever Conference, these are the team's you play more often, home and away, and they all include a far away destination roped in, so travel is shared among each pool, its the only way people can make a mockery out of it

Correct, Sydney will always get the favourable picks due to the lack of travel

Nrl journo who talked about it with Sydney conferences and the rest

They mentioned high crowds from more derbies

And someone showed the travel wasn’t much more for non Sydney teams

Even if the powerful Sydney clubs push for it they don’t have the numbers

It does open the potential for two top five semi finals series and two grand finals, one in Sydney and one in Brisbane

Followed by a superbowl type game

The other option is retain as is and a top ten finals system
