That’s always going to be the reality. I’d be interested to see how much teams would actually suffer from this

For example Perth will need to fly for every home game so it is a four hour trip to Sydney so much better than a six hour trip to New Zealand. Even if it is it would only be maybe two more times per year and they would see under the current system

Similarly Sydney teams already spent most of the time taking buses to play against Sydney team.

I am much more interested in a schedule that focuses on building rivalries and playing as many of these rivsl games as possible
Someone here showed the travel under a Sydney’s and non Sydney conference and the current system for non Sydney teams was basically the same

Simple top 2 from each pool go to finals
In a top8 just like we do now

I would also allocate 3 points for a win against a team within your conference, which would hurt moreso if you lost it
My problem with the top two is that it might become very obvious very early who is going to win and who will not.

At least with the top three more chance to make it through while still getting an advantage.

Mixing all of the finalist into a general final theory would be okay but you’d miss out on a lot of the potential rival rebuild that would come from an internal conference knockout we’re only one team move forward

Games become too sanitised for any real rivalries to develop these days.
Storm v Manly was brewing nicely but has petered away.

Why would PNG have any natural sort of rivalry with cowboys?
Perth v Manly, possibly Perth v Melbourne if we poach some of their players and lay the boot in a bit using the AFL angle is an obvious potential
and Auckland v Christchurch, if it happens, is a natural potential.
IDK Torres straight cup, who cares!!!! The more games played, the more excuses for a fierce rivaly
They are the closest teams to each other

Its not so much about the teams that HAVE to travel, its about do Sydney teams HAVE to travel. If they don't then they arent under the same duress as the teams that have to. A team that has to travel 12 times a year against a team that hasnt had to leave the state all year is going to be at a big disadvantage come play off time.

Its accepted that if you are Melbourne. Perth, Auckland NQ etc you are flying to every away game regardless of conference make up.

That would be my guess. If travel for the Sydney and reduced at all I expected wouldn’t be very much.

Melbourne, New Zealand North Queensland and Papua New Guinea will always have to travel a lot. That’s just the reality of having a team base there

Sydney teams play each other now

And if it’s a Sydney based conference it won’t impact the teams who travel more cause they don’t play them

Yes but are we making sure these teams don't have to play each other twice a season, that's the question, also making sure Sydney sides need to leave Sydney morso to venture to those far away destinations per year, the setup now means some clubs might not have to play warriors in nz, that sane club could also not have to play Melbourne in Victoria either... the way I set it up means each Sydney side will have to travel each year regardless

Sydney teams also have to fly for games now. For example Souths, Bulldogs, Eels last year had to fly to play 5 games. In an all sydney conference they wouldnt be flying at all.
Its possible that with 3 new non sydney clubs in future years that in a single comp a sydney club could be travelling for 6 or 7 games.

That's not a valid excuse to make Perth Bears play Southern Orcas and NZ Warriors twice a year, the travel for that alone is immense, better to have it that the Perth Bears have more of their away games against Sydney sides, far less travel, your only looking at it through Lol@Souffs eyes, you need to see it through a Perth or storm, Nz or PnG eyes, yes they have to travel, but how far and how often is that far travel

Ok Perth can travel to nz whilst we let the bears bit come and play at Sydney

God forbid the nrl does anything pro Sydney centric that would be a sacrilege

The system won’t get up but it doesn’t mean an all Sydney conference and a nother wouldn’t have a lot of benefits for the game

Every Perth away game is going to involve a lot of travel no matter which division they go with

Yes needs to be considerate of the travel that far flung clubs have to make and not favouring sydney clubs just because they are in a city with a number of clubs.
Even things like where a club is located. For example Perth to Townsville is a very long painful trip, but Perth to play Roosters is straight forward travel. Same for the NZ and PNG clubs.

Nope, it will only benefit Sydney conference sides, imagine any athlete decision on a contract on needing to travel every fortnight from wherever, to not having to do it at all and playing for a Sydney sides, the competition will skew heavily and the expansion teams will crumble, thus the whole competition will suffer for it, we will basically reduce the expansion teams to all become Canberra raiders, while all the Sydney clubs will look like the marquee roosters

As someone who flys all the time trust me Perth to Sydney or Melbourne is a doddle compared to Perth to Townsville, Port Moresby, Christchurch or Auckland. Canberra is fine as long as you can get on the one direct flight a day otherwise that becomes an extra 2-3 hours travel. Be nice if we had an Adelaide team though :)

Yeh without the Sydney teams the rest would crumble

That’s my point

Nswrl baby.

For once i agree with you here, the competition needs to stop thinking of the Sydney teams vs the rest, the rest is basically treated as cannon fodder
This won't make the competition last nor would it be very inclusive, if your calling yourself a national brand, might aswell call it Sydney RL and Friends

That's not ever going away, but if all ships raise with the tide then every game is worth watching, the nswrl is over, has been since Melbourne starting winning comps, if anything Sydney sides like Tigers, Bulldogs, Dragons, even lol@souffs now are all dragging our game down, it doesn’t mean they won't peak again, like Bulldogs did last year. But as soon as we create a great reason to bolster each game with this pool system, the NFL style intrigue will kick in, that game sux balls, but people love conference ladders and the
"can they make it" factor
