Yeah it is incredible, NRL the NGO, pull this off and what other strife torn country will they send us into. LOL.
Nah, but been thinking this for a while, we`re getting in on the ground-floor of a fast developing, resource rich country, the opportunities for strategic investment and long-term revenue generation could be game-changing.
PNG is not "fast developing" by any metric.

So a png NRL clilub will be 'minted' yet the country itself isn't and is rife with corruption.

Seems reasonable.
I guess it all depends on if the NRL and PNG government can persuade the big mining and oil&gas multinational corporations currently r@ping the country to chip in with some long term funding and sponsorships .

Think these american films you see set in some god forsaken poverty stricken African nation that has the leader in a palace dripping gold and eating caviar.
Thats pretty much NRL in PNG.
60 million for the oerth bid sure doesn’t compare does it

Do you actually have anything constructive to say about this team

If you don’t then why not just stick to the bears thread

Ah there's them rose tinted glasses again lol
The good thing is hopefully it helps a handful of families get out of poverty in PNG.
Is it a good social ROI on $600mill? Well we all have our opinions on that.

Two days ago, maybe yesterday you said: "sign up Perth, Christchurch, make PNG a massive success and sign a massive TV deal " Rose tinted glasses anyone.
Tonight you`re lecturing us on returns on social investment; normal programming has resumed.

if you were half smart youd understand there can be multi million dollar (and sometimes billion dollar) companies in poverty stricken and corruption heavy countries. its not uncommon. many of these countries tend to have abundant resources or something they produce that generates money. its just how the money is spents thats unethical i guess. papuan nrl club could be mid-teir profitable and it wouldnt have any relevance to the country itself.

if you were half smart youd realise that if not sport then this money would most likely be going to war mongering and/or infrastructure that'll just keep getting destroyed from on-going localised turmoils anyways. its from foreign spending policy budget, its going over seas either ways and no one battered an eye lids when feds were spending $50m on rugby in fiji. indonesia gets like $350m just because.. its $4.96B dollar budget in 2024 that budget increases by about 3-5% per year..

$60m is a set numbers so by using their DFAT foreign aid spending policy budgeted yearly increases which is around 4% rise by year it'll be

(calculated 4% increase per year)
YEAR - BUDGET - NRL - % of BUDGET
2024 - $4.964B = $60m is 1.20%
2025 - $5.151B = $60m is 1.16%
2026 - $5.364B = $60m is 1.11%
2027 - $5.578B = $60m is 1.07%
2028 - $5.801B = $60m is 1.03%
2029 - $6.033B = $60m is 0.99%
2030 - $6.274B = $60m is 0.95%
2031 - $6.524B = $60m is 0.91%
2031 - $6.784B = $60m is 0.88%
2032 - $7.055B = $60m is 0.85%
2033 - $7.337B = $60m is 0.81%
2034 - $7.630B = $60m is 0.78%
2035 - $7.935B = $60m is 0.75%
2036 - $8.252B = $60m is 0.72%
2037 - $8.582B = $60m is 0.69%

now of course future govs can cut spending and the 4% increase doesnt become normal but point is even if it stays the same now until end of 2037 papuan nrl + pacific rl infrastructure spending will only ever be 1.20% of total foreign spending policy budget ever. thats a very small number in the grand scheme of things.

so once again perthwrongs, ding dong

no he lays awake thinking of you, pippen, red bears, centy coast wb2027, perthwrongs, mattycby etc etc literally. how else can ya explain his obsessive loser nature towards the posters, he claims arent smarts but then always and i mean ALWAYS engages in discussion with. although it isnt discussion from him because the big irony is that what he posts never actually has a shred of smarts lol and everyone he tries to troll just ignores him anyways lol

But 500 million on Perth team is
Told you before Id rather the WA money be going to teenage suicide prevention or homelessness solutions, but at least our money is being spent in our state for the benefit of a few of our people.
Overseas charity is commendable for a rich country like Australia, but if your going to be charitable spend it where it makes a difference to people and their priority needs. Not sure building luxury compounds for millionaire sportsmen is high on the general populations priority list in PNG.

They haven't been able to get overseas multi-nationals to invest in PNG for the last 50 years, but suddenly Vlandys will change that?

Wouldn't be surprised if some mining company becomes the major sponsor of the PNG team. But the reason is to advertise themselves (before people jump in, I know the purpose of sponsoring a team is to advertise your business). Otherwise, if these multinationals were really interested in an NRL team they would have driven it and put up the 600m or a big chunk themselves for a team rather than us Aussie taxpayers.
