The PNG NRL side is likely to be ignored by the Australian public due to geographic and cultural differences, leading to a lack of strong connection with local fans.

Limited media coverage and exposure of the team in Australia makes it difficult for fans to engage with the squad.

Finally, Australia's focus on its own NRL teams and domestic players will overshadows international representation, contributing to the PNG side's lack of attention.
It does seem that the Warriors have traditionally suffered from that. I get the sense though there will be a big puff piece from NRLHQ around the club for first few years to drum up interest here. They need neutrals at least interested enough to tune in on tv to watch them, Warriors are the least watched club side in NRL on OZ tv, they wont want to repeat that but even worse.

By the way, arguing that PNG will dwarf a Queensland RL team in terms of revenue, and that PNG is an economic powerhouse, will do me.
Come on its obvious. Thats why PNG's utilities, schooling, security and avg disposable income is so much higher than Qlnds lol

“The Gross Regional Product (GRP) of Far North Queensland (FNQ) in 2022/23 was $19,809 million. This was 4.26% of Queensland's Gross State Product (GSP). In June 2023, the GRP of FNQ was $24,156 million. “

Cowboys sponsorship ??? Ten million pa

“As of December 2023, Papua New Guinea's (PNG) gross domestic product (GDP) was $30.93 billion”

PNG will be fine for sponsors @Canard

Their economy is larger than the one that supports the cowboys
Are you the full quid?

The Warriors have the benefit of a large NZ and PI diaspora in Australia.

PNG don't.

Jesus mate, that is one of the most plug ignorant observations I`ve read yet. Bloody hell, somebody even posted on here that the fumbleball forums were abuzz when the PNG franchise was announced, with genuine interest in how it would go and they are not even League fans.
There`s 100k Papuans working in Oz currently , with the closer ties probably double that, have you ever been to a game with PNG fans, next level stuff.

I'm from Cairns.

It's got by far the largest Papuan community in all of Australia, and that is no more than a five or so thousand.

You might have to check, if that arse you pulled that number from works properly.

I also currently live in the heart of AFL territory and 9.9 out of 10 don't even know of the teams existence.

That probably doesn`t include those on 457 visas, as I said I read in the The Australian or the SMH there are now 100 000 Papuans living and working in Oz. These papers are pretty reliable.
The PNG team have 10 years to get their franchise functioning, that should be ample time, and like any club if they are successful they will attract crowds and viewers on Tv like any good team, they will also have the advantage of attracting colourful passionate supporters which will enhance the game day experience attracting more fans.
Anyway I`ve had enough of responding to this negative death-riding, you can do it amongst yourselves.

And then along the wayreminding them when the team is a success

These are the ginps that said admitting the Redcliffe dolphins was a mistake

"I read it"- Glad to see you conceded.

457 Visa, HAHAHAHA. You think there are 100 thousand highly skilled Papaun workers in Australia! f**k me.

But yes, Australia certainly has a large and proud history of supporting dark skinned people from different countries and cultures.

Yes, yet one more thing the Papuans won't have
Nz don’t have 800 million dollars do they Einstein

Wait till they announce their corporate sponsors you’re going to look even more foolish if that’s possible

And down the track png will get a paid tv deal

Telstra own digicel pacific and they have an ebit over 100 million

The pn 13 game got ratings over one million people

Yes there is

Digicel pacific was the only profitable bit and that’s was based on png mainly

They have something like 800k subscribers

Why not google stuff for once rather than posting bs all the time ?

“But it was the ratings from two rugby league minnows that stunned rugby league executives.
Papua New Guinea’s 22-10 upset win over Fiji at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium achieved a reach of 839,000 on free-to-air.
It outperformed the second Test between the Wallabies and South Africa in Perth in August and the second Bledisloe Cup match in Wellington.”

Yeh png are going to struggle on Aussie tv
