So only $5.5M was needed to solve PNG's pathway problem? Sounds like a good deal for the Aus Taxpayer

Lets cut down the spend on the rest than, if thats solved all the problems....

It wasn’t to solve it

It was to get it started early at a good level and to build on when the real dollars come with the 600 million

You and your mate weren’t aware that the junior development has already started and paid for by the Aussie govt already

You could literally read the link and see how sucesful it has been rather than just putting crap on it

How succesful was this? It was provided in July 2023, when the NRL team wasn't even on the radar.

Nice deflection from the topic at hand however.

You'd think if year 1+2 was about participation and getting the best 700 kids each year into a better coaching system then year 3 or 4 would see them entering all age groups in the elite QRL comps?

$5.5m isn’t even a down payment on the funds that its going to take to have any success

what coaching systems ? How many Aussie coaches are over there coaching these kids ? What facilities do they have ?

Like maybe Dana white ??

Junior numbers are booming

Article i posted talks about linking junior pathways to senior teams

So why do they need any more money then ? It’s just about junior numbers right ? That’s why there are producing so many NRL level players over there

The academy that has been set up over there that takes 700 kids and gives them better quality training. Bit of detail here about how the academy is set up.
Like I said I would have thought the next step would be to take the best of the academy kids and develop some elite squads at U17 and U19 to join the QRL state comps at that age group. I would imagine that is where a chunk of the new money will go, as well as developing the Digicel clubs facilities and coaching you'd hope.

Hopefully in a few years we'll have 12 very well developed and quality Digicel clubs providing the Jnr pathways into a PNG NRL club U17, U19 and QRL cup system.

I wonder if the other NRL clubs will be sniffing around these kids ? Maybe your Perth team can steal a few…

Maybe read the article that was posted instead of asking chat questions

Very successful

Year two even bigger numbers

So 1500 kids in two years

Again someone who doesn’t bother reading the articles provided

It does

Literally says how they are linking these junior pathways with the seniors systems

I know you are lazy I was going to cut n paste the relevant bit but the article won’t let me for some reason

That’s convenient …

Any into there on how the additional Aust Govt mioney is going to be spent ?

Not at this time. But logically you'd expect to see something like:

U16's PNG Academy continues for kids showing some talent
U17's PNG NRL club run Cyril Connel Cup side
U19's PNG NRL club run Mal Meninga Cup side
Hostplus cup Hunters side to come under the NRL club

+ equivalent for female sides

The cost to run three sides in the QRL state comps plus women's equivalents would be many millions.

Then support to improve training facilities, coaches, medical care etc for the 12 PNG Digicel cup sides with Junior programs sitting under them, again many millions.

Likely the funding for all of that will be split between the PNG NRL clubs $29mill a year Govt grant and the $25mill a year pacific grassroots funding grant that presumably the NRL is going to administer? .

they don’t seem to sign a lot of juniors out of PNG though
Racism? :)
Hunters arent that bad a side so not sure whey we havent seen more players picked up out of it tbh. Lazy scouting or not feeling a PNG player will easily adapt to Australian club environments, maybe feeling defensively they tend not to have the techniques needed? Who knows. Interesting though that so few have been picked up so far.
