I can see this discussion is going to be hilarious comparing PNG's 15 consecutive budget deficits with WA's 3bn surplus from last year. I read that the PNG government is aiming for a surplus by 2027. Maybe they can announce it before their first home game or at half time.

As I've said asked financial expert wbtiktok before, if PNG's economy is in such great shape why do they need $600 million from the Australian government for an NRL team?

Why would they pay for something the Australian government has given them for free? For 10 years anyway …
Why did the Australian government give it to them as well as the billions of other grants?

Is it because the economy is in such robust shape, they thought, here you go guys, here's some money, show us how to do it?

I don’t know the motivations for what China does … just telling you the reason why Albo gave them $600m … unless you have another reason?
I don't have a reason, nor am I asking for one. I'm simply asking if PNG's economy is booming as wbtiktok claims why didn't they go to the NRL themselves and say we can fund an NRL team, what's the bidding process?

If some one wants to give you something you really want for free …then it doesn’t matter how rich you are …. You will likely still accept the gift …

So why is China a threat if the economy is so robust and thriving?

Or maybe wbtiktok us fantasising/lying again.

China is not a threat to PNG. China's eyes are firmly fixed on Australia.
A Chinese naval base on the southern tip of PNG and QLD, NSW and the ACT are within touching distance.
The Chinese are already in the Solomon Islands but it's a bit too far to the east for them.
PNG is the perfect location.

Talking of the Solomon Islands it’s really about time RL got its act together and started developing the game there as it’s got a population similar to that of Fiji around 800k+ and to the best of my knowledge very little to zero rugby union presence.
