Good move, now make signing RU players exempt from the cap for the new clubs!
RU? Why not do the same for some of these juniors over there you keep telling us about ?

I'm more interested in the two new clubs not diluting the current talent pool for the first 3-5 years like Dolphins have done. If we can sign outside current NRL squads we should be looking to do so. The local players from PNG and WA will come eventually.RU? Why not do the same for some of these juniors over there you keep telling us about ?
Min wage is $120k so I guess they could try and find the best 19 year PNG players and bring them into the 30 man squad with no cap impact. If player 29 and 30 are from PNG that frees up $240k to spend elsewhere.Would this change much? It's not like those players would take up much cap space. As in I don't think salary has been the impediment to any club signing a PNG player to date.
The press release saying the team is "expected" to commence in 2028, is interesting wording.
There's always plenty of talent coming through the NZ rugby union system, and any incentive for NRL clubs to pick from that would be a good thing for depth.I'm more interested in the two new clubs not diluting the current talent pool for the first 3-5 years like Dolphins have done. According to this its actually $135k nowMin wage is $120k so I guess they could try and find the best 19 year PNG players and bring them into the 30 man squad with no cap impact. If player 29 and 30 are from PNG that frees up $240k to spend elsewhere.
if clubs can find PNG players at 19 or so who look like they've got potential and can sign them as player 29 and 30 in the squad (those lower 5+ player positions arent needed for first team, they are there as development opportunities) and free up $270k cash to pay others why wouldn't you? Presuming theres some decent 19 year old PNG players to sign of course.According to this its actually $135k now
The Salary Cap
Here are the official guidelines for the NRL salary cap, including frequently asked questions like what players can earn outside the salary cap, how much can clubs spend, third party agreements and more.www.nrl.com
But Development Players are $80k.
If the talent was there, I couldn't see $80k being the difference between recruiting someone or not.
Turn PNG into a genuine tier 1 nation as well regularly competing with and beating Australia, New Zealand and England.Awesome stuff and has the potential to change the game forever. This has the potential to turn PNG into a huge nursery of talent for the NRL which is huge as it looks to expand and helps us avoid the talent drought that a comp like the AFL is having.
For all clubs more like it.Good move, now make signing RU players exempt from the cap for the new clubs!
English, Welsh and South African etc.Should do it also for English kids … Union or league
Looks very promising
It’s going be fascinating to see. Does throwing money at jnr development equal first graders? if yes how long does it take and how many can be produced? Will be a very interesting experiment for sure.
