I don't think we'll have much of a chance of signing Sculthorpe. I'm pretty sure he recently signed a LONG term contract in England which will keep him there till he's about 30.

In a radio interview the other day Raper was asked if there was any players in England he'd like to see at Cronulla. He said Paul Sculthorpe is the ultimate professional and a good bloke. Not sure if it was him or the commentator who said Cronulla might have to break the bank for him. The other commentator then said something along the lines of "if Chris Anderson doesn't break the bank first".

The thing about Sculthorpe is that although he is a very good player is he worth the money he would want on an Australian market.

Talk of breaking the bank or having to ditch BK is ridiculous as it is putting a non NRL tried player on a value of around $.5 mill. I wouldn't wanna be giving a guy like Sculthorpe more than about $300,000 and a bit.

If we were to chase poms I'd go for up and comers, there's plenty of them getting about. Too bad about Briscoe signing with Hull - he could of been the ticket!

Surely if we flew him out here to check out the lifestyle in the Shire he would jump at the chance, even on reduced money, compared to living in dreary mother England.

Those Poms cant get enough of Australia, they think it's heaven (and they're right).

Maybe, especially when it's explained to him he can get a beer for under £10!

I dont know how many heard Raper on 2KY again this morning but he was asked about what Pommies he would like to sign. Again he mentioned Sculthorpe as being an obvious one he'd look at along with Andy Farrell and someone else. Then said money may rule us out but thought some younger talent could be identified and maybe we could get the "new "Adrian Morley.
Also said he had a 2 yr deal but wouldnt give a prediction what sort of finish he is aimimng at. Then said we might achieve(all coaches sometimes achieve) a few things quicker than expected (covering his own butt?) but things may take time.
Also mentioned he had no input into our current playing squad but liked what we/he had.
Covered himself again saying a coach needs a couple of years in the job (team signings etc). Made it quite clear he would like the job longer.
Did say Greg Pierce was reinstated and he gets on great with him(and worked with him before). Simon Gillies is trainer. No mention of aaron (wasnt asked) but said his dad was happy and (his dad) would be able to have a drink with his old mates again on Friday arvo's.
Said the parents were really happy but thought his parents might split on loyalties when we play the Dragqueens. Peter Peters said no doubt John would be on the Dragqueens side to which Stuart agreed.
Hope thats close to the mark on what was said but I was recovering from a hangover so I take no responsibility in stuffing what was said up.
