Possible new Australian Coach

I heard on the radio this morning that Wayne Bennett has put his hand up to be considered as the replecement coach for the national team when Andersons contract is up for renewal or if Anderson should stand down. If there was a challange then this would be interesting on state voting lines. If we all think Anderson is arrogant and unrealistically loyal to his "favourite" players, then just wait to see what Bennett serves up. I think that it is time for Anderson to be replaced but I would not want Bennett to get the job. I could deal with John Lang (as the QLD nomination) but please not Bennett. Has anyone heard any more about this? Anderson to Bennett would be out of the frying pan into the fire.

The word going around is that it's a done deal, Ricky Stuart will be the next national coach.

I have a great deal of respect for Bennet, as a coach and as a person, after reading his book! :)

However I think u make a fair point! Just look at Benny Ikin, and then the overlooking of both Wesser and Schifcofske for origin this year - and it wasn't like the QLDrs had formed any winning combinations!! :?

I heard this morning on the radio that he was denying putting his hand up, but was expected to if given bipartisan support from both the NSW and QLD ARL directors.

Personally, I'd rather see him as coach, over Anderson!! I think Stuart is also a candidate, and that pretty much speaks for itself!!! :x

Wayne Bennett has not put up his hand for the Australian coaching job.

It is just a rumour started in Sydney.

He may not even coach QLD next year, because he has said the Broncos are his main priority.

The people who's name's are being mentioned for the Australian coach are Ricky Stuart & Michael Hagan.

Personally I don't think Stuart is the man for the job YET.

Give him a few more years to gain experience. The same goes for Hagan.

Perhaps the whole Rep selection process needs an overhaul. Fans complained about bias shown during the SOO and now the Test team as well.

Would it work leaving the train-on squad chosen only by the selectors without Coach involvement and then letting the Coach only select the team strickly from that squad?

How many proven, experienced coaches do we have atm? Surely Ando, Bennett and Smith aren't the only ones?

Graham Murray (Cowboys) and Tim Sheens (Tigers) both did a pretty fair coaching job this year IMO considering the stock they had to work with.

I don't really rate Steve Folkes, as with the players he's had available his team overall hasn't performed that well.

I think Graham Murray would have to be the pick for national coach.
Actually in all honesty I have always felt that in a perfect world the National Coach shouldn't be coaching in the NRL. but that is almost impossible I suppose, and even so there always going to be a certain level of bias. To replace Anderson with Bennett is as most others said.. ridiculous. It would be like having Fulton and all his Manly boys in the team again..(been there, lived that!)
I have heard that Graham Murray is an extremely personable coach who is capable of bringing people together very well...Seems like the best candidate for mine.
Both Hages and Stuart haven't had enough experience IMO.

I just want a coach in there that does not favour players who are in the same team he coaches, especially when they are not playing to their potential. I don't care whether it is Stuart, Hagan or whoever else, I just want someone who picks players who are in form.

We would not have a team then.

Even if Joey was in the side today, Australia would have been beaten.

Anderson is not the only selector.
